  • I cannot see why it is a foregone conclusion that anyone has to pay anyone else long-term when a marriage fails, unless of course there are dependent children, when it's a little different. Your husband should have fought this at the time.

    He did fight, margaretclare, and managed to keep his employment pension which she had tried to get as well! She can't work so he knew he would have to provide for her, and he was happy to hand the house over to her though as obviously their children will inherit it eventually.

    I don't know the woman, she lives in another part of the country so we can't easily know what's going on. She has my sympathy as she cannot work due to her illness but if she has a new man to support her she ought to come clean about that.

    That's not correct. Depending on what the order says maintenance claims remain open until there is an order dismissing them completely.
