Where is the best place to get cheap coal?
Either collect or delivery.
Personally I would prefer somewhere in the South Belfast/Lisburn area but post all other towns/areas too for other members interested in getting cheap coal.
Thanks in advance.

Nowhere near you but household coal is £10.50 (50kg) Burnglow £10.25 (50kg) for collect only near Whitesides corner Rtown/Ahoghill area. Its not bad good heat not a big pile of ash. Blocks and turf big bags are £1.500

Thanks absoluteutopia, I was about to post a similar question on coal prices and am Ballymena area. My wife & I realised we've become very aware of going rate for oil but much less so solid fuel.
Could you give any more detail re place near Whitesides corner? Looks a fair bit cheaper than we've been getting.0 -
The truth is that whatever fuel you burn in an open fire, it is an extremely inefficient way to heat a room. As much as 90% of the heat will go straight up the chimney. Open fires also increase draughts: an open fire can draw up to 17 cubic metres of air a minute and will get it from wherever it can. So, for your £10.50 for your 50 Kilo Bag nearly £9.00 is going up the Chimney.
Really old Oil Boilers are about 55% efficient, New Non Condensing Boilers are about 78% Efficient, New Condensing Boilers are anything from 80% to 95%+ Efficient.
I know it is nice to have an open fire in your room but if you do the sums you'd be better of having the Oil Burning!!Live, Love & Laugh A Lot!0 -

Some of us don't have a choice.
I only have an open fire with a back boiler that heats my radiators & water.0 -

You hadn't mentioned this in original post. If you own your house, have have you looked into getting Central Heating installed?? Would probably pay of in the long run (Look at it as a long term investment) Would be soooooo much more efficient.Live, Love & Laugh A Lot!0 -

Why would I have.
If I was interested in changing my heating system & seeking advice on the matter, I would have created a different thread about that, not this thread about where to get cheap coal.
I just wanted to know where people can get cheap coal for the winter.0 -
