hello miggie glad you want to join us and dont panic - you will have a sparkly house before the MIL arrives!!!
you are very welcome. If you achieve level one every day that will be brilliant and next week it will be easier to do a bit more. A new room is added every day by our illustrious leader and you do it to whatever level you can manage. Post what you have done and not what you havent - there is no such thing as failure on this thread. remember - baby steps - dont try to do the whole house at once. Your house didnt get in a mess overnight so dont expect it to get tidy in a day! You will find the support and encouragement on here is brilliant.
welcome to the very madhouse!!!!:D

Gryfon - you can usually make overpayments to your mortgage to pay off some of the capital, Most lenders let you do this monthly along with your usual direct debit. So you should be able to keep your payments at the same level and get some capital paid while rates are low, then when they go up again you can stop the overpayments.
I'm interest only as well, but I pay a fixed amount each month of £750, which will only stop if the rates make my minimum payment go above this. It means that I can budget and that now I'm paying over £200 a month off my capital after a couple of years of paying about £30 :j
I checked out savings rates and it made more sense to pay the extra off the mortgage because mine is flexible so I can have the overpayments back any time I want but some mortgages don't let you have overpayments back- once they're paid that's it -so check that as well before you do anything.
And how your lender calculates interest - if it's at the end of the year then there's no point paying extra in Jan but if it's monthly a few days before the end of the month will have an immediate effect.
Oops I turned into a mortgage bore
If you have other debts apart from the mortgage it's usually better to pay these first as the interest rate is higher too. I'm sure you know this already anyway so I'll shut up now"I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." Paul Theroux0 -

As I said earlier, I marzipanned my Christmas cake this morning. At the moment it's in a Quality Street tin but it only just about fits in once it's wrapped in greaseproof. I'm pretty sure that when it's iced it won't fit in there any more.
What's the best way to wrap it up after this? I haven't got a bigger tin or container. Can I just cover it with clean tea towels or something? Being able to store it will affect how soon before Christmas I do the icing!
toots, take it steady. You won't be able to do anything at all if you push yourself too hard.0 -
