>:( Why is this so good when the Halifax have a 7% deal for a year? Not sure why the Nationwide offer might be better??
Help please. ???0 -
Hey Flossy
The Halifax deal allows you to save only £250 a month for twelve months, and it is this amount that earns 7% for the period it is present in the account. The upper limit on the Halifax is thus £3000, and that too is not there for the whole 12 months, so Halifax effectively becomes a £1500 deal appx invested @ 7% for 12 months. At the end of the deal in a year's time, we do not know sitting today what the interest rate regime will be, so there is a reinvestment risk.
On the other hand, this deal gives you a fixed rate on £5000 for 24 months. While one can only hazard a guess on int rates today, it is largely believed that rates have peaked and hence, if you get an attractive deal, this might be the right time to go in for a fix.
A two-year deal strikes a good balance as well, as the term is not as long as say, a five year deal, plus the 6% on offer is definitely one of the best rates on offer now. It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0 -

Thanks for the tip Robert. I was annoyed at missing the summer bond because my money was tied up. Let's hope I'll be able to open one this time.Lurker extraordinaire! no. 4950

My wife and I got 2 seperate letters from them telling us about this Bond,it says please fill in enclosed application form, there was none attached.
I rang Nationwides HQ office in Edinburgh, they had never heard of it and I must have been confused by last years Xmas`s offer.
So I wait with bated breath!!!!!!!A wise man changes his mind, a fool never will.
