I'm moving to a new-built flat where there is no BT connection at the moment.

So you will need to get a BT line installed before Tiscali are interested in your custom.

And the connection setup fee for tiscali is just £30.

    That is for broadband connection.

However, before placing the connection request i would like to have some views from existing tiscali (Phone+broadband) customers about their service. Also i think if i switch to BT after 12 months, i don't have to pay 124.99 since i have a landline connection already setup which saves another £95. Is there any other catch if i do that? What do you guys think about this option? Reading some reviews from tiscali customers, their sercice is awful! is that true?

In your new property, you will first need to get a BT line installed. If you then switch to Tiscali, you will have to pay off your contractual obligations to BT.

i spoke to tiscali cust service and already got my engineer appointment for the new connection for £30 only. Also confirmed they won't charge me anything extra.
I think you may have hoodwinked yourself by hearing what you wanted to hear.

If I'm wrong, great. You have a reasonable deal.

But I don't think you have.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. You DON'T need to have active BT phone line to get tiscali connected. Only thing is you have to call customer care and arrange engineer appointment to setup the line. As i said i already got the engineer appointment to setup the line. This is mentioned in their website as well:

    http://www.tiscali.co.uk/products/talk/buy/check-number.html?code=ZZ-NL-11EE&srccode=COD_592&offerid=1555

If you have a cable telephone line or have no active telephone number, please call 0800 107 9000 and we will be happy to place your order.

So how much will you be charged to have this new line installed?

So show us where that is stated on the website then! You can't believe what you have been told over the phone, not with Tiscali.

Are you sure they don't mean "setup fee" as opposed to "line connection"?

  • Hi guys,

Thanks for all your inputs! I somehow managed to get back to my BT landline with 124.99 waived as per their special offer on 18 month contract. I was on the fone for last 1.5 hours transferred to 5-6 different depts and finally managed to get it sorted out.

So now its cheaper than tiscali for me since i don't have to pay anything at all for line setup... wohooo! special thanks for the guys who provided the PROMO code! Gonna call tiscali to get my request cancelled!

    Cheers!

Tiscali tends to be the whipping boy of the forums but I migrated over to them from Orange which was horrendous and have been happy with their service, no downtime at all.

You might be the only user they have left so have the run of their equipment
