So this didn't work too well then?? What cost to reprogram the ecu??
The window works fine in that it works from the electric window button on the relevant door and it works from the electric window buttons on the drivers console. It doesn't work though when you press the window button on the key remote. This means you can't open/close this window from outside the car with the key fob.

It has been suggested OH just needs to go through the reprogramming instructions for the remote key fob.

You need to take the car to another mechanic. Just ask them whats wrong - ie you have a misfire. It's either going to be the coil, an HT lead or a spark plug problem. A competent mechanic should be able to diagnose that in a couple of minutes. Try and find someone dependable by asking around.
A new coil pack is about £50 at a motor factor, fitting is about 15 minutes.

IMO you'd be crazy to part exchange after that level of expenditure.
If you try to part exchange as is the dealer will err on the side of caution and thus offer very low.
You've already spent sustantially,so another £100 isn't going to matter.
It's a genuine low mileage car that you know the history of so keep it and get the value out of it.

a lot of ford cars need to have the windows reset after work being done
i cant remember the procedure but it is easy enough to do and find out
remember it is nice to be important
but more important to be nice ;)

I partly agree with you...but, It was not quite literally he made us do the repair...I am trying to say...he would have known better, that it was not worth repairing it from his previous experience and I was naive to think that he should have suggested a cheaper option as we were considering part exchange even then.

My point is...while he has to do his business, isn't he supposed to give the best advice considering our situation. I felt may be he just wanted some business and suggested repairing it irrespective of what the car was worth.Part of the fault lies with my wife for acting in haste and agreeing to the repair.

The fault lies wholly with your wife TBH. The mechanic said what the fault was and your wife told him to go ahead and sort it so he did. The thing is though that it is not the mechanics job to say whether it's worthwhile doing or not. There are people like me who will spend a lot fixing a car they really like. For example, 2 years ago I put a reconditioned engine in a 25 year old Ford Capri. The engine cost more than I paid for the car. I felt it was worth doing as it was a car I intended keeping for a long time so the fact the engine cost more than I paid for the car was irrelevent. Over the three years I had that Capri, I spent roughly £4000 on it doing all the bodywork etc even though I only paid £600 when I bought it.

  • Thanks for all the replies. Part exchanged it this w/e and the guy even drove our car...but, decided to report the car as ok to his boss. So, our car got valued 2800 and managed to reduce the car we bought by 200. So, overall we recouped the repair cost we paid plus 1000 and managed to get rid of the piece of !!!!...FORD FIESTA SEMIAUTOMATIC..would not recommend it to anyone unless...you can repair it yourself.

Went for Nissan Micra and it has some manufacturer warranty still...Hope this one goes well.

Lots of learning to take away from the experience...! Thanks for the answers.
