Yes, definitely see one of the counsellors of it all gets too heated - it's what they are there for.

I think they are pretty busy this time of year though, so you may not want to leave it too late if you think you may benefit from it.

Im booking in some time with my counselling service at uni, what I thought was sorted clearly isnt and im getting myself back into the hole I climbed into a few weeks ago. Im ill all the time, because im stressing about getting no work done, and im getting no work done because im stressing. Its a vicious circle and im so worried about failing again and being kicked out of uni because I owe it to everyone who's counting on me, my mam, my dad, grandparents, my boyfriend, my friends..

Good luck with it - I have certainly been helped by mine.

Aww famous, what a lovely message. I agree with what Keeping Motivated has said about you... just a few days to go. It's hard, but somehow you always feel a sense of accomplishment if you've slogged for a while to get something done.
  • Thank you all so much. Your kind words mean so so much to me, and have honestly brought tears to my eyes. I have a psych appointment on 15th Dec and i think that will take some of the weight off. Also, im nearrrly finished with all my essay writing. Should be done by the end of tomorrow :D

I hope you all have the most amazing christmas, and wishing you tonnes of love and luck in your futures :)

Mellymeep - i feel ya. If you ever need a friend (or any of you) to shout, cry or just take your mind off things with. Please feel free to PM me.

  • Ughhh. Its just been a long hard slog this last few months. Loads of other things in life have been !!!!!! (such as my dad being diagnosed with a brain tumour, family deaths, my sisters illness..) and im just completely exhausted. I am SO looking forward to finishing for Xmas. I just need to bolster myself back up i think.

I graduated this summer and had a similar experience. I found second year a bit of a breeze. I enjoyed all my subjects, did well at the end of the year, worked part-time so did alright with money, volunteered every week for various things, and the workload was just about right.

In the first two months of third year I experienced two deaths and one near death, and in that context when you're asked to write essays that aren't really going to change the world, you just think, "What's the point?" Although I didn't do English, the course involved reading massive novels, just as a source, and then doing loads of reading around them every week. So I got behind with that straight away what with moping and attending funerals and suchlike, then it all got a bit much. But I just got on with it, did as much as I could and got some motivation back around Christmas. I even quite enjoyed writing bits of my dissertation when I wasn't pulling my hair out over it.

The difference in workload between second and third years is huge and it gets everyone down, even if everything else is going swimmingly, but most people get through it. Graduation is definitely worth it and comes around really fast!
  • Thanks Bluebird, its great to hear of someone else who has got through it. Im sorry to heat that you lost loved ones, thats hard at anytime, but especially so if you all these other things going on in your life.

I think the 'whats the point' factor has become a key issue with me too. With the family problems but also as i love my job, and was made aware that i would be a prime candidate for an amazing promotion but i would of had to leave uni as i would of needed to move back to London. Just makes you wonder why you bother on so many levels.!

Hmm, I can see both sides here...On the one hand, I never really found my BSc all that hard, to be honest, and certainly not stressful (although I got a grade to reflect my lack of effort, don't worry). I remember complaining about having to do 26 hours of lectures per week - I don't think the idea of working 40 or 50 hour weeks had ever dawned on me then...and if I went back, I know I'd work harder and find the whole thing, probably, even easier than I did first time around.

That said, I'm just not the kind that feels pressure - and I know plenty of people who really struggled all the way through their course, especially in the third year. It's perfectly normal and you *will* get through it. Just keep on doing your best and before you know it you'll be out the other side with your certificate in your hand.

    Oh my word, if only!!

I have grown to hate students like you, but please don't take that personally! :p

Out of interest, have you always done assignments that way, or is it something you've learnt to do along the way?

    :rotfl: No offence taken!

I havent always done essays like this, definitely not!! When I did A Levels I was USELESS, left work too late, did it the night before etc. And then when I started Uni I realised that my sciver technique wasnt helping! So now I try and start it early and do it bit by bit, a few paragraphs a day or something. Its much easier and my marks have improved a LOT.

I graduated (for the first time) 5 years ago, I graduate for the third time next week. I'm now working full time and I loved both my undergrad degree and my job. But my degree was much much harder work and took way more hours than my full time job does.

I know it's hard but maybe you should really not focus on what the deadlines they give you are and make your own smaller ones that mean you have smaller more realistic goals. I made boring long term timetables to make sure I had enough time for everything and I did something every day. And I stuck to them religiously.
