Anyone else just finding it really hard??

Options
Hey,

Im in the third year of my degree, but this applies to any students really.

I was just wondering if im the only one finding things really hard. Whilst this does certainly apply financially (all maxed out with nowhere to go!) i also mean socially and academically.

Basically, i want my degree, and im trying my best but jeeze... noone said it would be this hard! on so many levels! Just wondering if im alone in this...?

Sorry... Christmas deadlines of over 20,000 words get a girl down

  • I know just how you feel!! I'm doing a Masters and while I knew it would be hard, especially because I somehow decided that two part time jobs and a full time MSc would be a good idea, I'm with you in that it's so much worse than I thought... I've got so much work to do before Christmas and I keep on telling myself that it's only for another week then I'll be at home but that just makes me realise that I've still got so much to do before then.

Sorry, I'm a bit incoherent tonight. I had a Grand Plan of how I could get all my assignments finished on time but I'm slipping behind and I've now reached the stage where I'm too tired to think and have work in the morning but am loath to go to bed because even though the one I'm working on just now isn't finished, if I can't start on my next assignment tomorrow I won't have enough time to get that one done and do a group presentation thingy next week too.

So, um, yes... you're not alone ;)

  • When I was at university some 2 years, I found it touch as I didn't use any credit to get by from day to day as I was already in deep debt before I started university.

This message is just offering some support, I can promise you if you keep going it will be worth it as when I graduated I was so proud and you will be too.

There were times during my final year wher I was confused and down, wondering why I bother etc, but if you keep going and I know you WILL be successful!!!

    Best Wishes

Scotty, thanks for your message too. Its great to hear from someone who found it hard but got out the other side.

Only another 3,000 words left by thursday and im 5/6's of the way there. phew.

I've just got past yet another brick wall I built up around myself due to all the work ive got, the drama in my house, and the depressing situation of my bank balance.. I guess it is natural for us students to get down about everything every now and again.

Many times i've just wanted to quit and get a full time job so I can have some disposable income and be able to buy whatever I want. Sometimes the ballache just doesnt seem worth it, but I took some time out and went home to get counselling from my parents and i've come back with the resolve to stick in and make everyone proud of me come graduation day!

Isn't the point of university that it should be hard?

My grandad was talking about when he studied chemistry in the 50s. At the end of the first year they kicked the bottom third of students out. Then at the end of the second year they kicked half of what was left out.

I guess my point is: Stop whining and get on with it!

I totally agree, especially when the wonderful student loan company send you letters cheerfully stating they're currently charging you £51 interest per month.

I think it's at this time when Christmas exams are looming and there's still another semester to go when it's tough! There seems to be no end to the work...

    Ah well...

They do say if it's not hard, it's probably not worth doing.

Stick with it. It's worth it all in the end. :)
  • Aw, that's a lovely thing to say famous, it's made my day :D And 5/6 of the way there is amazing!! :T

Despite my moaning I'm actually really lucky, I enjoy my jobs and they'll be useful experience for when I finish the course. I just need a time turner so I can fit everything into the day. I finish in May... well, apart from the dissertation I'll be doing over the summer but I'm trying not to think about that part!

I think everyone's right - it is a long hard slog, and I agree that this is the worst time - when it feels like you've been working flat out forever, but there's still a few months to go. But it will all be worth it in the end, and that's a good thing to keep in mind.

Now lets just see if I can practise what I preach as I spend Saturday night essay writing :)

Thank for that. Really. I DO get on with it. Hence, why im still there fighting and getting through. I just wanted to see if fellow students were struggling too, a little bit of reassurance, if thats okay with you? Kicking a girl whilst she is down. Truly. thanks.

    ..............

Kitten. Thanks :) you have got it SPOT ON! good luck with the essay writing! thats what i have been doing all day but now im having a glass of wine before bed! You so right, it is hard and its so tempting to quit - but it will be worth it in the end. Mellymeep, blue, Ashley and Kitten - here's to graduation! not long now!

I'm also a third (and final) year student and like you, am drinking a glass of red before bed!!

I totally understand how you're feeling. I finished the 2nd year with a 1st but despite having done so well up until now, I'm finding the 3rd year really daunting! It's not so much the difficulty of the work itself, but rather the amount of work we've got to do and the extra effort we need to put in. When I sit back and think about it, which is quite (and too) often really, it seems so overwhelming!!

But there is light at the end of the tunnel...even if it's not shining yet!
