I was just thinking this - it might be worth instead sitting with a nit comb and a bowl of hot water with washing up liquid in it and doing it by hand. It's time consuming, but totally safe and the bonus is the dog will learn to love being groomed
You will have to do it daily, though.

Oh my god, I have Shih Tzu's and Akita's and my pups go between 6 and 8 weeks, after the new owners have receivd propper training in how to care for their dogs. I am guessing ths dog has not had it's needles, get it done and then take it to Puppy training classes to get it socialized. If this is it's second home we can assume it didn't even spend 6 weeks with mom, and that is bad, very bad. Go for the crate training option with the ticker in it. It won't solve your issues over night but if you put this pup in bed with you you will put it on an even keel with you and tihs will cause even worse problems when he is mature and will extend the time it will take for him to get over his howling. In the mean time, ignore the howling, and go OTT when he is quite he will eventually get the point, no noise is good. he is only a baby, and you wouldn't get angry with a newborn child for crying if it would have been taken from it's mom.

P.S. for the fleas get anti flea stuff from your vet to spray your house and the dog £20.00 per can. The stuff sold in supermarkets is no good, and get puppie worm drops from a good pet shop ("pets at home" sells a good brand that tastes of Chocolate) As the breeder didn't care about the age of the pup to rehome it I am guessing he never wormed it. The pup will have worms and could get heart worms, which can be lethal. it needs to be done at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 weeks and then at 3 months and so on.

I would always get a dog or b1tch neutered, the risk of unwanted pups is too great, and how sad to have to keep a dog on lead all the time and deny him the pleasure and exhileration of a good runabout and socialising and playing with other dogs, just because s/he is not neutered.

Even keping a dog on lead does not guarantee safety - someone I worked with was talking to a friend (with his dog on a lead at the side of him) when a male dog mounted his unspeyed female - he was really very shaken and upset about it.

Wormers sold over the counter do not deal will all types of worms and need to be done more often then using a quality wormer prescribed by your vet. As this pup is so young I really would advise not using anything other then what the vet has advised and prescribed. When hes older, buying his wormers and flea treatments online will be fine (at six weeks the quantities will be so different )

I had my puppy chipped at ten weeks while he was having his first jab and it's not something that I'd ever do again. He had his inoculations first and seemed to hardly notice the needle but screeched out in pain when the chip was put it. I think that he was far too small to have such a large needle inserted into him especially as he wasn't going to be leaving the house for another 4 weeks.

If I ever need to get a puppy chipped again, I'll wait until it's 14 weeks old.

We ended up with one of our puppies too young once - not our fault - and my Mum put a sheepskin rug into the basket for the pup which must have felt very reassuring for her - a bit like her Mum.

Although it seems traumatic, the younger chipping is done, the better. If it's left too long, to have something that nasty done at the vets can leave a life long scar. When they are younger the memory fades quicker.......

and yes I personally have seen this happen, and I would guess that the other vets and nurses on the board have too Although it is usually when an owner puts a dog treatment onto a cat, but not always if the posts in that group are to be believed
