One off mobile broadband - what's the best way?

Options
I am going into hospital for a few days and wanted to stay on-line to fend off the boredom, but I don't think the hospital has Wi-Fi. I've checked for free Wi-Fi hotspots in the area too, but nothing comes up.

I don't normally use the laptop out and about, so what would be the cheapest option to get mobile for a few days?

Please keep answers simple as I am a bit of a technophobe!

Thanks

shouldn't use mobiles in hospital - they say turn off for a reason, as you never know.....

you may be using a laptop, but you'll still be using the mobile phone network to go online - which will bring in the signals that hospitals want to keep out

That rule has been relaxed in most hospitals and the doctors/consultants always used them anyway!

indeed, and that reason is "PatientLine", the rip-off bedside phone service that is in bed with most of the NHS trusts.

use your mobile phone if youve got one, i just dont understand why people are getting into this 3g mobile broadband buisiness, when most phones are 3g anyway, and funtion just as well as a modem as these 3g usb dongle thingies.

if you have a mobile phone that has a little web browser (wich most do thesedays) then your prety much dead set for using it as a modem, if you are PAYG you can convert a top up to a data bundle instead of calling/text credit.

ive been with orange on PAYG for years, they charge £1 a day to be able to surf the net with my phone, that pound a day also lets you use it as a modem so you can surf the net on your PC instead of the phones diddy little screen.

i did this my self extensivly when i moved earlier in the year and it took a while for the broadband to be put on.

ive also used a vodaphone modem when i was out in africa on a PAYG basis converting topups to data packages.

3g is incredibly rubbish if your used to a descent BB conection at home, its very remenisent of dial up and ISDN.

no its not. In fact my local hospital has had jammers fitted to stop people using them. just because doctors have a phone doesn't mean its safe to use in hospitals.
