Sounds good
I dont know what update you managed to get for free but I read through the reviews on Amazon and came up with this
"Moving onto the subject of MAPS well they are very old, but that is the case with most sat nav's when you buy them after they have been on the market for a while, for £55 you get 24months worth of maps updates, I dont think that is too bad, Im sure there will be about 2-3 updates in 24months, which works out quite good"
Personally I find £55 for updates expensive taking the full cost up to £138+ which causes me to hesitate on that one.
Does it have postcode search and voice instructions?
It does have voice instructions which are pretty good, though generally whenever I go somewhere I've always looked at googlemaps beforehand and have a general idea of the route in case of problems.0 -

If I were you I'd be tempted for this one at total pda - it is a manufacturer refurb and comes with usually warranty and is only £80.49. Includes full postcode search, European maps, speed cameras including a free update. I've got the version two of this and it is very easy to use and small as well.
As mentioned earlier I'd consider the pocketgpsworld.co.uk speed camera subscription as they are very thorough and updated regularly - plus if you find a fixed, permanent camera that isn't on the database and submit it you get free updates for life!0 -

I bet you leave the sucker marks on your screen tho' .. the low life assumes that you have left your Sat Nav in the glove box.;)0 -
I recently bought one of the Total pda refurbished Sat Navs
TomTom One ver2
And TomTom Home tells you the map is 6 quarters out of date and wants £39.90 to update.
Which mean you are better off buying a new Sat Nav under one of the many offers that come with extra freebies.
Have contacted Total pda twice by email and been ignored on the subject of out of date maps.
Have contacted TomTom with email and been ignored.
Have contacted satnav-discounts who supplied the original postage discount coupon. Who after my contact admitted these products do not come with update map guarantee and confirmed this with total pda. They then removed the comment on their site satnav-discount which said these sat navs qualified.
Also, yes I know on TomTom website their own refurbished products are stated as coming with update map guarantee.
So far I am just being ignored by these companies (!!!!!!!! Baffles Brains, as they say) So much for customer care.
Wish I had bought a Navman with upgrade guarantee or the quailifying Garmin product. Even the Ebuyer Navigon has 1st Quarter 2008 maps..
My personal experience of TomTom customer care, is they don't care a fig once they have your money.0 -
From what I can tell:
Live is a service in newer models which you need to subscribe to and gives you info on real-time traffic, fuel prices and safety info
and Traffic is on some of the previous models in which you have a traffic receiver connected to your tomtom which gives you real-time traffic info and is free (edit just seen on tomtom website that there is a traffic subscription too)
Is this correct?
What are peoples opinions of the 530 with traffic vs the 540 live?0 -
Traffic updates are subscription based if you use the bluetooth / mobile method. They are free if you use the rds tmc antenna.0
