What about this:
"Where your number one"
Seen on the side of a van advertising a restaurant.
Not sure if they meant to say:
Where you are number one; or
We are your number one.
And don't get me started on spelling. Upto is not one word!0 -
For the true pedants - or, like me, the exasperated............

I too find this very, very irritating.
Every evening on my way back from work, I have to go left at a roundabout. On the other side of this roundabout, so very visible as you stop to let traffic round. The sign is pointing to a firm of signwriters up the road. It says on it 'SIGN'S'.
Does that really, really make you wanna use that particular firm for your sign??????
Another one that irritated me from years back. A group of lads on our holiday coach I believe had been to that resort, as a big group the year before. It looked like they had t-shirts printed up for them all to travel in. On the rear of their t-shirts it loudly proclaimed in bright, bold print 'THERE BACK!'.

Again, I despair. Surely, surely the printers knew what they were trying to say???? Surely they didn't just think 'customer is always right' without pointing out the glaring error?0 -

I suppose that if the signwriting company is called "SIGN" then the wording would be perfectly alright. Presumably it isn't called "SIGN" though.
There was an item some years ago when John Major was PM. I believe the news article was about some benefit for the people from something that was incorrectly labelled as the "Citizen's Charter". Apparently there was much speculation as to who the lucky person was.0 -

when you Google MSE, a list of "sublinks" are given.
One of these is entitled "Forum's".
Can some mod or other power that be PRETTY PLEASE remove this apostrophe before I take Tippex to monitor?
PLEEEEEEZE!
Does it matter about the apostrophe0 -
I would be obliged if those who take offence at solecisms concerning apostrophes would be as diligent with the diacritical mark.
It annoys me to see words missing their two dots. Regrettably the loss of these dots gets worse year by year. Now hardly anyone spells "coöperative properly. Or naïve. As for names are Cloë, Zoë and Noël are they still around?
Some people make a great deal of effort to keep dying languages such as Welsh alive well past their sell-by date; such a shame that this part of English does not benefit from a similar effort.0 -
There is a classic example in this week's Private Eye. It was spotted in Chalk Farm Library:-
"Do not leave your belongings. Unattended thieves operate in this area."What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
get a life!!! theres people dying in the world, people with severly disabled kids etc,and ur stressing about this!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my God! How many exclamation marks? There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
