Absolutely Fuming!

Maybe not the right place to put this.

I rent a flat and told my LL a month ago that my shower doesn't give out hot water, only cold. I have had ages with cold showers when finally he came out tonight with his 'plumber' (this 'plumber' has been out before when I had no running water and didn't have a clue what he was doing).

Everything was fine, the shower was put in and worked fine, my LL left and the 'plumber' was going to finish up. He then asked me for a mop to clean up the mess they had made. I told him not to worry about it because I don't have a mop, I said I would sort it out. He then told me the flat is really dirty because I don't have a mop! Now, this flat is spotless, I only just had the LL on the phone telling me I'm the cleanest tidyest person he has rented out a flat to (he has 10 flats). I was fuming! I told him he had no right to say something like that. Then he told me I moan a lot! I told him to leave because I really was fuming! After a bit of arguing he finally left while shouting through my letterbox what a 'horrible person' I am!

I phoned my LL straight away to tell him what had happened and while on the phone to him I heard my letterbox make a noise, opened the door and there he was sitting there listening in to my conversation!

During the arguing he admitted he wasn't even a plumber and he told me how he had put in the shower, washing machine, boiler etc. No wonder absolutely everything in this place doesn't work right!!!

Sorry if this makes no sense, I am just so angry still!

Cheeky git! I think you did right to get rid of him.

But I would be concerned about his lack of skills - don't boiler installers have to be corgi? Do you have a certificate signing off the safety of the gas appliances?

Please follow this up Drea, in fact, ask on the homes board - there's a real plumber on there who will advise you properly.:D
  • I can't help but have a titter at the thought of him sat outside with his ear to the letterbox listening in on your conversation :rotfl:

I would insist on your LL getting someone who is qualified in to check the work that has been done.

Absolutely! I would be concerned if you have anything gas installed by this joker!

My LL and this idiot are friends, my LL loves to save money where he can

I did get a gas safety certificate done (which I had to fight for to see a copy from the LA, but that is a different rant altogether) and the boiler is fine, but he couldn't get in to do the full check because he put the boiler in a cupboard. But I seem to be safe.

I told my LL there is no way that man will be allowed back into this flat while I still live here and that he will need to get someone else in to fix my washing machine, LL reckons he will come do it himself :rotfl:

I have to laugh or I'll cry!

    Who signed the certificate?

It was done by a heating company, I was here when they done it :) he was complaining about the fact it was in a cupboard so he couldn't get in properly but I seem to be okay. Will dig it out in the next TV adverts :rotfl: there were a few questions I had about it that I probably should have addressed at the time. I just get so fed up of fighting for everything in this flat  it's been... interesting from start to end (in Feb, thank god).

:rotfl: I'm a Celeb is on!

Yep the thing says 'pass' on each part. Done by Contract Heating and it has a CORGI sign on it. Three things in the 'faults and remedial work required' part but I'm not sure if he actually has to get that sorted or not.

Erm, you can go onto the corgi website and type the corgi reg number in and check they are corgi registered! I would if I were you!

What are the points on the gas safety cert out of interest

If one of my plumbers spoke to one of my tenants like that they would be out on their ear. If a tenant is obtructive or whatever, that's for them to report to me to deal with not them. (Not saying you were either!)

I seem to remember you had heating issues when you moved in ;)

I have a tenant who is totally THE most high maintenance person I have ever had the (mis)fortune to meet. They complain about everything but being rude is not the way to deal with it.

Ah yes, the heating issue was just me not knowing how to work it :o

But my shower having no hot water, washing machine filling up when empty, having no water at all etc are all things that need fixed surely? I don't complain about everything...

    The three points were:

Boiler - Restricted acces to boiler (wardrobe has been built around boiler)
Boiler - Wooden shelf within 15mm of boiler (No signs of distress)
Meter - Earth bond not within 600mm of gas meter outlet pipe

Each of them say 'Not to current standards' at the classification part.
