Stick with my free McAfee or move to something else?

I still prefer AVG for the free ones because it scans incoming / outgoing mail, Avira Antivir doesn't. I wasn't such a big fan of Avast, but it's a good 2 years ago since I tried it, each to their own.
They are all much of a muchness, if you are a safe user and don't open attachments from people you don't know, (and don't download and visit suspect sites) in general you'll be fine. I've switched between Avast and AVG on a test PC, maybe I'll give Avira a whirl at some point when I have a moment to test.
Personally I'd get rid of McAfee, it is a pain.
Agree with davitmt83 re the best paid for options.0 -
Every test I've read puts AVG behind both Avast and Avira Antivir in terms of detection rates.
I'd disagree agree with this statement. See this site here:
http://wiki.castlecops.com/AntiVirus_Comparison
Specifcally, AntiVir beats Avast and AVG on each of the following tests performed:
AV-Test.org April 2007:
Malware Detection Rate
Mega Antivirus Test:
# Detected viruses(~10,312)
AV-comparatives 2006:1
Virus detection rate
www.virus.gr Aug 2006
Virus detection rate
AV-comparatives 2005:
Virus detection rate
For 2008 results I've found http://www.av-comparatives.org then select -> Comparitives -> "On-demand comparative, August 2008, Online results", and it shows AntiVir again beats Avast and AVG in detection rates...0 -
Thats when you pay for the FULL PACKAGE David ~ we're talking about the free versions:idea:0

Antivira PREMIUM has spyware protection (as well as email etc) that the free version does not:idea:0 -

That's fair - discount the malware etc. comparisons. Anti-virus detection rates comparisons however still stand. Based on anti-virus alone AntiVir still beats Avast and AVG in any detection rates comparisons I've seen...Avast scans emails
My belief is if you have good e-mail habits, don't open unknown messages, don't run mystery attachments without scanning them, etc. then the free version of Avira's AntiVir should be all you need to keep your computer free of viruses.0 -

Oh I agree. I was simply stating that you cant take all the information you linked to as gospel
Id have Avira over AVG any day personally (Though im currently trying out Avast):idea:0 -
