Stick with my free McAfee or move to something else?

Question. Should I stick with my free McAfee security suite or move to another programme? I've no problems with infections, malware etc, and my web general browsing is ok, but whenever I want to go to a page that contains a lot of small pictures or a couple of larger ones, the browser slows up something rotten and I have a feeling it's McAfee that's causing it.
I've already disabled the phishing filter in the browser, with I've kept as IE6 rather than upgrading to IE7 - could this be a problem as well? Haven't gone for Firefox as I just prefer IE - it's what I'm used to :rotfl:

There seems to be a view (shared by some on here) that that in itself can be a problem: that McAfee 'does nothing', it just sits there saying 'everything's fine'. Can't verify this as I never use McAfee. Myself? Avast and FF (never would I return to IE).
BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

I run regular scans with Ad-Aware SE, C-Cleaner and Spybot S&D, just to make sure there's nothing else sitting around. I don't run the Tea-Timer function on SS&D though.
Have gone through all of the browser add-ons, just the usual flash objects and a couple of other things that don't eat up my resources. Would it be worth using Malwarebytes just for another check?Where there's a will, there's a way to get something cheaper from somewhere else!!

I would do no harm to do so, follow this guide;
Malware Bytes
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.- Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
- Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
- When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Then click Finish.
- MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
- On the Scanner tab:
- Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
- Then click on the Scan button.
- If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
- The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
- When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
- Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
- Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
- The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Seems like you're very much secure! Don't get me wrong about McAfee; I've never used it myself, but just certain things I've heard on the grapevine, including mse. Never used Mwbytes, but seems to get decent enough recommendations here:)
Good thinking about tea-timer; bloody nuisance LOL.BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

McAfee is awful
Use AVAST
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
(And PC tools firewall if your on XP):idea:0 -
The Free Version of AVG has taken a bit of a pounding here lately, but I would still recommend it ahead of Avast.
Using IE 6 is not a good option, at least go to IE7, as it's a huge jump forward in scripting control (ie Active X's and Javascripts running on your viewed webpages.)
IE6 Technology was around when Windows 98 was all the rage.
Oh, and all the magazine reviews of the spanking new Norton'09 say that it's lighter, quicker and actually works. We shall see.0 -
Have a read of the following thread for a discussion of Anti-Virus software. To summarise I'd say my choice for a free AV is Avira AntiVir.
My choice for a paid AV would either be ESET NOD32 or Kaspersky with, for me, NOD32 winning.
