Thanks anyway. Pharmacy is what I have wnated to do from school and I will get to do it one way or another. Just another hurdle before I can do it. I'm sure it will make it more worthwhile. If you know anymore information out RE getting around the ELQ then let me know0 -
For the exempt areas such as medicine, nursing, teaching etc, does anybody know if SLC will still offer support to students or are they expected to pay for everthing 'upfront'.0

Is there any way around this ELQ problem??
Im in a similar situation, i want to study a second degree which is a different direction but in the same area i work in now but I just cant afford the ELQ fees.
If you were to omit your 1st degree on application to the college and pretend you had never obtained one before, would they find out ? and how?0 -
NB. Im referring to a graduate diploma which can be accessed also via APEL
where your working experience is considered instead, therefore you would be exempt from the ELQ policy and just pay standard fee.0 -
I am falling foul of these regulations- I have an unconditional offer to study Politics at Hull in September having already done a degree in Media. The fact is that I can afford the fees (£3225 a year) but can't afford the living costs, which I estimate at about £5000 a year. Hull are sweating on this for obvious reasons.
I have had numerous conversations with the Student Loans Company who don't seem to know what's going on, as they were waiting on the budget. To be honest I can't see why the government can't fund/authorise the loans as they will (eventually) get them back plus interest in the future.
I am disgusted with the government on this as 100 million pounds isn't that much in the current climate, for instance they found 140 million pounds recently for free swimming for the old and young. I believe they may relent if the problem is highlighted within the mainstream media and shown as a rather deluded cutback. I accept that they want to fund first time students as a priority, but some provision has to be made for those who wish to either gain new skills or re take exams they may have failed earlier in their lives.0 -

Ok so here is a question for you all which you probably cant answer...
Is there a distinction in the ELQ between an honours and a non-honours degree?
From what I have read they all use the example of moving from a foundation degree to honours degree and never say 'ordinary' degree (as my university described it) or 'non-honours' degree.
I completed a HNC and progressed directly onto level II of a BSc a fair few years ago. Now I would like to complete the full honours BSc(hons) which due to it not being recent means I will have to redo the whole of the final year again.
So should I assume that because an ordinary BSc degree is classed less than an honours BSc(hons) degree in terms of becoming a teacher (minimum of honours) and other professions, that the government arent going to contradict themselves and allow the ELQ rule to say they class it as equal ?0
