I'm not expecting to be funded as a first time student but surely there must be some sort of compromise instead of having British students being classed the same as foreign students. Plus why should people be punished for a lifetime for one stupid young mistake?
Not that long ago you would have received no state funding whatsoever for changing courses, even if you'd just started the first year of a course and found that it wasn't for you.
It's not that students in your position are being classed as international students but that these pay the full cost of their course and people who've already had subsidised funding for 3 or 4 years will be in the same situation.
I hope that you manage to work something out.0 -
worryingly, the OU hasn't published it's October fees yet. I'm braced for the worst.My signature has been removed by the authorities. If you have been affected by the issues raised in this signature, please contact the Action Line on 1-800-THEY-NICKED-MY-SIG.0

I asked about a specific course and was told that they were planning on freezing their fees until 2010 (i.e. there may be a small increase but not the full amount you would epect under ELQ). Maybe double check this?0 -
pfdunlop - a big fuss has been made about this. Virtually nobody in the Higher Education sector agreed with this policy. Unfortunately the Government chose to rush-through the policy and not consult properly with the sector. A Select commitee of MPs disagreed with the policy and pointed out that it contradicts the Government's own re-skilling agenda.
This is just a typical example of Governement arrogance and short-sightedness I'm afraid.0 -

It is very typical of the way things are going just now. Someone was telling me a story of a guy in Scotland who was jailed for stabbing someone 100 times. The guy was jailed for 22 years which was subsequently shortened to 12; he has only served two years of this and has been allowed to go to a Scottish university with other students and study towards a degree while I and many like me are fighting for just funding for uni, I am going to work and pay for accomm while I am away from home, while this guy gets full room and board too.
Again it's the good guys who lose out.
Screw the government!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:0 -
Also, the funding rules do differ substantially in Scotland, so ELQ policy may not even apply if you continued your study at a Scottish University - might be worth checking that out by contacting a Scottish university.0

There was something crop up in the 09/10 LEA Guidance regarding this. I'll locate what info I have and edit this post shortly.0

If it is a BSc, then you may be in luck, as an MPharm is an integrated Master's programme and in which case you should not be counted as an ELQ. Re: the following clause lifted verbatim from the funding council's guidance.
'A student whose highest qualification on entry is a bachelors degree with honours and who decides to study for an integrated masters programme should not be treated as aiming for an ELQ.'
However, I'm a little confused as you say you're in your fourth year of a BSc and Bsc's normally run over 3 years. Are you sure you won't already have an integrated Masters? If you qualification is definitely 'BSc' then you should be OK, but if it is something else beginning 'M...' then you may not be.

I will come out of 4th year with a BSc (Hons). In Scotland, Honours degrees are 4 years instead of the 3 i think it is in england. I am hoping to get a place in Robert Gordon in Aberdeen, but if not then I will have to go down south. Also, MPharm is the only healthcare degree that hasn't been exempted from the ELQ thing... which is the biggest farce out!!!
Thanks anyway.0 -
oh yes that's right - the MPharm is the only integrated masters which is counted as the same level as a BSc, so you would count as an ELQ sorry for any false hopes and good luck0
