Credit checks can be a bit of a hit and miss... every provider has a different formula for credit scoring and it's down to whether you're above or below a set score threshold. These might also be adjusted according to the provider's budget (Voda has been quite aggressive in getting new customers recently though not so much anymore)

When I got my mobile contract with Orange, they took my address down wrongly when I applied and I still passed. The address doesn't even exist in my town! The only way I found out is that they tried to deliver it there and when I rang Orange to ask why I haven't received the phone I was told the wrong address and they fixed it.

    Very odd.

They pass on a credit score. The 'pass value' if you like can vary depending on what Orange are doing at the time. If you try again you may very well get an acc. Or do what grb55 suggests and get a free laptop, Bargain !
Experian do not pass on a credit score. They merely provide the information and Orange create the score.

yeah that does make sense to me.

Things to consider, the score is based on things like are you employed, how long you been at address, electrol roll and if you have a landline. Those informations are provided on your application form not from credit agency, the credit agency provides information such as what credit you have applied for and current credit limits as well as if you making the payments and any defaults. So this is why I didnt believe the credit agency provided the score not to mention I have no score on the credit report I have here.

with Orange order direct from website, twice through CPW I was declined ?

Orange said YES I could CPW would not process order as I failed credit check - Orange were like " he passes internal & external with us ", Orange could not match the deal though so I declined but Orange were willing to add another handset to my a/c or standalone new a/c

CPW were not even interested with Orange's direct approval from Orange's credit department ???

I assume both used different systems/companies to credit check ?
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe ;)
  • Do the providers still credit check you if your contract expires and you want to upgrade to another handset/tariff?

yes most do EVEN direct & not through a retailer UPGRADE - but internal past records of payments are well in your favour so you should always go direct, its saves UPGRADE commissions paid out doing so you can get a better retention deal, ie a percentage of what they save is gifted to you for DIRECT loyalty in retention departments....if you PAC out & PAC back in or upgrade through a retailer that cost the company a hell of a lot more than a retentions discount

Not all of them. 3 don't, Virgin used to (not sure if that's still true) that's all I know from personal experience. I've been told O2 don't unless it's an iphone contract.
