I used someone else's listing detail - is it against the rules?

A piece of copyright text acts as a re-inforcement of copyright. Just because he doesn't assert his copyright doesn't mean the text isn't copyrighted.

In my opinion, providing you have changed some opf the text etc., there shouldn't be a problem, because it isn't exactly the same to when you copied it - you have modified it. However, if he does notice it, I would email him an apology and not do it again next time as repeated copies might be looked into by eBay.

Your chances of him seeing it are 50/50. If your auction is only a 3 day one or something similar then its unlikely he'll spot it. :)
  • That's the thing tigermatt he has spotted it and has asked me to change it or he'll report me! It's a 10 day auction too.

can I log on and edit now?
The following from the eBay site:
If the seller's item has received NO bids or sales and does not end within 12 hours, the seller can:
Revise anything in their listing except the selling format (for example, the seller can't change their auction item to an eBay Shops item).

If the seller's item has already received a bid/purchase or ends within 12 hours, the seller can only:
Add to the item description or add a second category.
(Exception: If the seller's listing already has a bid/purchase AND ends within 12 hours, the seller can't add to their description or add a second category)
Add optional seller features to increase the item's visibility.

If you look at post 14, you should be able to change your description providing the auction doesn't end within 12 hours.

I was presuming add to the description meant you could modify it???

If not, an apology letter will need to be written explaining that the auction's description can't be changed, but it won't happen again etc. That sort of thing.

Personally, if you have changed some of the text, I don't think the pther user could do anything. Some people are just very picky...

    Hi Fatboyon

If its worying you that much , cancel the bids ( email them explaing why ie you made a slight mistake in the discription )

    Change the listing round

Then let it run its course

If its an item which is widely sold on ebay I cant see how you can make the wording any different. i.e. if it's a DVD how can you word whats on it any different to anyone else?

Agreed Tiger some peeps are to fussy.
Imho i would just let it run as it is, he will be very unlucky if ebay do anything about it as its not copied word for word

You can add additional info to the listing even with bids on it,
but this isnt in the main bulk of the text , i
    ts underneath it saying

Seller has add this infor yada yada yada.

Its prob easier if hes that worried to cancels the bids change it a bit more then lets the listing finish in however many days its got left.

So that's what it does and that's how sellers get that on their listing... ;)
