  • Hi all

Managed to get a parking ticket from UKPC at our local Tesco this afternoon when I popped to the Post Office to post a parcel. Can anyone tell me if it is invalid if the warden omitted to put their warden number on the form?

Admittedly I am going to follow all the advice on MSE anyway and ignore it completely, but we just wondered whether legally they have to put their id on the notice.

    Thanks

These private tickets aren't covered by any laws anyway, so it really doesn't matter what they put on their notice, all they can do is send you an invoice and hope you pay it. If you don't, they'll probably send you some more scary looking letters threatening Armageddon, but as you've read all the advice on here you won't be falling for that trick.

  • Hi,

I really hope you can help as my mum has been given a ticket by a private security company on Public Land. It has been confirmed with the Police and the Local Council's highways authority that the spot where she was parked is public land. My mum appealed the letter and was sent a reply saying they have looked at her appeal and the penalty notice stands. The penalty was for causing an obstruction, there was no obstruction being caused, she was parked on public highway and was not blocked any access or egress from the nearby private land, a former bus station where the private security company operates.

I find this astonishing and my mother is now wanting to pay the penalty as she doesn't want any hassle, but I don't want her to be bullied, as the private security company can't ticket on public highway. This has been confirmed with the local authority and the police.

Can anyone please advise me on how I can help mym mum sort this out as I don't want these bullies to get her money.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Please put this into your own thread where everyone will see it.

Next, was the ticket issued by a private company on behalf of the council?

Or is it just a private ticket?

    Which company is it from?

ETA: Have the police or local authority not taken an interest if this is indeed just a private ticket? This is fraud.
  • Hi,

. My mum appealed the letter and was sent a reply saying they have looked at her appeal and the penalty notice stands.
........ the private security company can't ticket on public highway. This has been confirmed with the local authority and the police.

I think this demonstrates beyond doubt that the PPC appeal procedures are a sham. They may allow the odd appeal (usually when the press gets involved), but an impartial appeal procedure as you and I understand it, does not exist.

    .
  • Hi all...i've read the advice on this board and i'm prepared to stick this one out however i could do with some re-assurance to push me along.

Picked up a ticket on a pub car park recently...the usual 'slip' with no contact detail other than a po box address..no right of appeal procedure etc.. To me it is just a money making scam..Please advise i am doing the right thing as my 7day 'reduction in penalty' period ends very shortly !!!

    Many thanks in advance:beer:

Yep you're right - safe to ignore. They'll try to intimidate with threats of court action but will be laughed out if they do. A private company can't charge a penalty under contract law.

    (Welcome to MSE  )
  • Many thanks crabman for your reassurance..i'll expect somthing shortly then as 7day grace now ended...gonna have to hold tight on this one and i daren't tell the wife either!!
  • Hi,

Can this be used for a private parking company? I wish I had read all the information in this website before doing anything, but it is too late..

I received at PCN from UKPC for "leaving the site". However none of their signs specify that leaving the site of the car park is an offence. All they said was, that parking was limmited to 3 hours and was for retail customers only.
I sent an appeal letter, but after receiving an increase of charge and a letter from collection agence, I called to be told, that they had not received my appeal. So they gave me an e-mail address to post my appeal, which I did. After a week I received another letter from the collection agency, so I phoned them back. They claimed they had not received my e-mail (as if!). I resent it, and this time they responded that they had received it and are sending letter in the post. couple of days later I received a standart letter telling me that my appeal was considered, but I still had to pay, and had 7 days at the lower rate. I wrote another e-mail saying, that I am not paying anything, unless the points in my appeal were considered, a site visit was made to inspect the signs at the car park to prove that they were wrong, and a personal letter sent to me. Today (over a week after my e-mail), I received a letter to say that I should "rest assured that our Appeals Manager has personally reviewd this case, however these particular circumstances are neither unreasonable nor unjust" this is final, and you have 7 days to pay at lower rate. Does that sound like a personal response, just because it included the word? I don't think so.. So just written back to them to say that, and also, that I have not had the result from any site visit...

    Any other ideas anyone?

    Thanks!

Yes - stop communicating with these people, the more you write to them, the more likely it is that they think they can scare you into paying, and the more they will pester you.

As you have realised by now, there is no appeal process with PPCs, they just want your money. Don't contact them, don't pay them, and ignore their ridiculous letters.
