In answer to the OPs question ~
    Theres NO difference
HD means it has the capabilities of displaying at least a 720P image (Theres also 1080i and 1080P)
i means interlaced (half picture every 50th second)
p means progressive (Full picture every 25th second)
In reality, on a decent tv, its almost impossible to tell a difference between the 2
Also, a lot of 720P tvs actually look BETTER than 1080P as the internal components are better (Im talking similar prices)

^hmmmm, thus a little bit like the flat panel TFT debate: a decent quality 17/19 inch vs a mediocre 22/24 inch.

What rubbish advice given on these threads-the old chestnut about CRT being better on SD is nonsense-given the SAME screen size

Would you care to explain that to the BBC who still use CRT screens to monitor their broadcasts?

CRT has one main advantage over LCD and Plasma, it doesn't have a fixed pixel size. Any HD LCD or Plasma has to use software to upscale the SD picture to fit a HD screen. A CRT can just display it at it's actually resolution.
It's my problem, it's my problem

And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

The resolution of a colour CRT display is determined by the aperture size in the shadowmask/aperture grill. This controls number of dots per inch that it can display.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I get confused when i see 1 tv's specs mention 1080p and another says 1080i, why not just stick to 1 or the other, ok so since 1080p is true HD then whats 1080i used for then,

say for example i have an xbox 360 and i also watch, which tv would i get then,

In that case I'd look at your viewing distance and compare it with one of the charts and find out which size panel falls into it. There's no point getting a 32" 1080p tv if you sit nine feet away from it, you'd be more wise to buy a good and cheaper 720p set than just buying into numbers.

Everything used to be 1080i or 720P
But bluray is actually recorded in 1080P, so to watch blurays without any form of conversion you would need a 1080P tv

720p is the basic HD standard.
1080i is Mid level and the highest that TV stations can transmit via Air or Sat
1080p is the Highest quality of HD avalible and used in Blu-Ray disks and Consoles.
