If you're put off by the idea of a smart phone I'd stay well clear of the Omnia. It's more of a PDA than a phone. Windows mobila is fantastic as a PDA (I have a dell I've used for years so I'm no stranger to WM), but not as functional as a phone. I had the Omnia, found texting a huge effort, took three times as long as on a normal phone. Very easy to use with the supplied stylus, problem there is the stylus has no place other than where a wrist strap usually goes, so it just dangles. All in all I found it twice as difficult to use day to day as the smart phones I've had.

If you're after a PDA I'd highly recommend it, it's a fantastic bit of kit. But if you use your phone for texting a lot (as I do), I'd stay away. I know there will be people who disagree but I just thought I'd offer an opinion.

Do you think it makes a difference to the size fingers you have? Mainly I'm at home so sent my texts through Skype as it's cheaper but need my phone to receive them. I was after a PDA last year but I think a combined PDA and phone would be more practical so I'm not carrying too much around in my pocket!

Sorry for butting in on your thread Foxylady :o

I know lots of people like having the latest toys, but personally I'm always wary of being one of the first to get a new gadget!
Some how, these days, we seem to have gotten to a point where it appears to be acceptable for companies to release products that are unfinished, or at least unpolished.
It's a trend that I hate, and although it won't stop as long as there are people that are willing to pay top dollar for buggy goods, just because it's the "latest thing", it's not a business practice that I'm willing to support.
I'd always rather wait a few months to get something, by then the price has usually come down, & the manufacturers have had a chance to iron out the problems that weren't addressed before release. *shrug* ;)

I was the same with the iPhone, which also had firmware issues at the start. Now it's solid, been tested by about 9million people in the UK (at last count!), and is now free from o2 ;)

  • with the windows 6.1 software texting is very easy, in fact I find it easier than trying to tap in a letter on one key before it moves off to the next. also some of the mobile software has much better predictive text than the standard mobile fare
