Omnia or Renoir

I am currently on the simplicity deal - 600 mins, 1000 texts and unlimited web for £20 per month with O2.

I want to upgrade to an omnia but O2 don't sell it and they have offered me the renoir for £49, 1200 mins, 1000 texts, unlimted web for £27 per month for 18 months.

Can anyone help me answer the following questions:
  • Do I choose the renoir over the omnia?
  • Does anyone know of any good deals on the omnia at the moment?
  • Should I take the renoir deal and then sell it on ebay to fund the purchase of an omnia?
The only thing that is putting me off the renoir is the fact that it isn't a smartphone. I am not too bothered about it having a better camera to the omnia.

I really need some good advice, I can't make my mind up
I'd be grateful for any advice especially from those of you that have an omnia or renoir.

Many thanks

The omnia is more of a business device.

    The renoir is consumer.

Depends what you need to use the phone for. Windows Mobile is very complex coupled with touchscreen makes it a usability bomb if you're not so technically savvy.

Orange have stopped selling the Omnia because of the NUMEROUS issues with software and hardware, i'd steer clear until they've sorted all their issues. Why not get an iPhone? They now do them free (Apple refurbs) on the £35 tarriff with 600mins, 500texts and unlimited wifi/web.

I am put off the iphone because of some of the reviews, one in particular on the omnia says "The Samsung Omnia is the hottest phone of 2008. It's a touchscreen smartphone and, unlike the iPhone, it does everything that a high-spec phone ought to do."

I don't want to pay as much as £35 per month either.
I don't know what to do, I'm put off now with buying an omnia because you have mentioned software and hardware issues, maybe I should wait till after xmas and see what is around then.

    Thanks for the advice.

It was on an omnia review that I quoted in my last post that inferred the iphone was not high spec.
Also http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/apple-iphone.htm has given it 3 stars and says it has many limitations.

Did you speak to orange direct to find out that they had pulled the omnia due to hw and sw issues?

I was looking at the Omnia today, not one person in any shop I went to mentioned any problems. Ok I know they just want to sell them but surely they'd mention something and steer me in another direction?

No they wouldnt - if they can get rid of the stock then they wont disclose that their are software preoblems with it - and even if you brought it back to the shop at a later date - they woudl refer you to the manufactuer

Bother. The iphone is far too expensive and the Omnia seemed perfect. Anyway surely if I was having problems I would deal with the people who sold it to me and not directly with the manufacturer?

  • I am looking to buy an omnia without a contract because I have a £20 a month contract which is good but with my old phone. Not sure whether I should get the renoir for £27 a month and sell it on ebay so that I can buy an omnia. If I do that I will be tied in for 18 months with o2.

I think I will be getting one as now most of the software problems should be sorted. I'm also getting it contract free because I don't want to be tied down. I don't use the phone for much speaking it's just mainly for texts and using the calendar etc feature.
