Let's just say it's a little village sub-post office, she and her hubby are no spring chickens and the time it takes getting served by her is measured on the calendar not the watch.;)

As a professional and established seller you really need to know what services are suitable for what, if you ask for recorded that is what you will get.

Basic stuff, get a set of scales and pull up the RM postage page on the net. Wrap and weigh your stuff, then mark on the envelope how you need it sent, depending on weight and value. Then when you go to the PO you save everybody's time by having it all marked and you can just reweight each item and ask for the service you require. Thiis is even more imprtant if other people do the trip for you, do all as above but maybe attach post it notes or something to each package as an aide memoire on how to have it sent. My children can follow my instructions so I am sure your neighbour can follow yours.

  • You can always live in hope it might find its way back to you (presume it has a return address on it??). Is the buyers history good or bad? I found that the couple of things i've ever refunded eventually got returned to me and one was found by the buyer a week later left behind a plant pot!!

Maybe your friend/neighbour still has it. how much you trust them? Quite convenient to not get a receipt or send it recorded.:o

Or the buyer has the item and cannot believe his luck in someone sending a £300 item, not tracked. Even 1st Class Recorded you would not have been covered.

You may well be £300 down.
  • Ouch a expensive lesson to learn!

I have had this happened to me but on a £30 item. I just have a real feeling that the buyer did receive item but of course they were still refunded by paypal. I only think this because they asked me 2 days after they paid where it was and they thought it had been lost in the post!??? After 2 days of paying for it.

I did state this in the paypal dispute but i feel eBay and Paypal is so biased towards buyers right nowadays. You dont stand a chance unless you insure it properly with recorded delivery of low value item or special delivery for expensive items.

Now i dont give buyers the choice they have to pay the extra pennies for recorded delivery.
