Barclaycard customers' warning. Check your repayment date

After being customer for over 20 years I have had to tell Barclaycard where to go. They have never done anything like this before this year, however they have done this to me 3 times this year. A warning - you may get it changed once but they will change it again - don't trust them!

You all seem to have been lucky in the past in that there wasn't much variance in the dates. Mine could be anywhere from the 2 to the 11 of each month but I'd got into the habit in the twenty odd years I've had it of looking at the statment on the first of the month to see when to pay as I do it on the phone. three times since this april I have looked at the bill only to find that the payment due date was the 29th of the previous month. I've rung them to say how ridiculous and that if I was doing it by direct debit there probably wouldn't be enough in to pay it as I get paid last day of the month. I said it was sharp practice to them but needless to say they weren't interested although on the 1 occasion where they added a late payment charge of £13 they refunded it the next month - twice!!!!0

Upon receiving our Barclaycard bill (and picking ourselves up off the floor at the balance!) we just filed it in the B1N knowing our bank account could cover the direct debit due out on 17ish.
As the beginning of December arrived, I was delighted to see we had plenty money to spend on christmas gifts! :j
Feeling a little suspicious, i checked the previous statement and realised the was no payment to Barclaycard!!
Worried we'd be charged late fee's or there was a problem we contacted Barclaycard.:money:
Imagine our surprise when we were informed our bill was due to be debited on Dec 5th!? :T
Seems Barclaycard want cash payments asap and aren't worried about the guarenteed direct debit payments!??:rolleyes:0 -
Just a note, although I have not checked the facts, over the years I have always payed off my card every month.
But I seem to remember that the time allowed over the Christmas period was always shorter.
With holidays and post Christmas pressure, do check.
You are so right!
FEBRUARY is the month to be aware of with Barclaycard catching people out, just as all the Xmas and sale spending come homes to roost!
January 08 statement...... payment due date 4th February which was the normal every month
February 08 statement......payment due date 25th February!!!
So 2 payments going out in one month, with barely a break of wind in between!!

Thanks for the heads up. My Barclaycard statement is due in the next few days so I'll be checking it carefully, as I pay by standing order.
I just wanted to add that I have a cheap balance transfer deal with them (as recommended by MSE) and it's actually in the T&Cs that if I miss a payment, the interest rate goes up drastically - and permanently. So if I were to miss a payment, there's much more than one late fee at stake.
If they only change the payment dates for people who pay in full each month, then people like me don't need to worry - but I thought I'd mention it just in case!0 -
Happened to me on my MBNA card last month. Date has been 26th or thereabouts for years now, last months statement came and i noticed it had changed to 10th. when i rang up the girl said she didn't know why it had changed and she would put it back but she couldn't change this months. I have a balance transfer on there at 0% so i suspect they are trying to get me to pay late at which point 0% ceases(could be me just being cynical);)
Just the latest ploy from card companies to get extra money on the sly from us.0 -
PS. I've had cards with Halifax, Egg, Sainsbury's, Amazon, the Co-operative Bank, M&S and Virgin and none of them have suddenly changed a fixed payment date. However, with the Co-op it was different with every statement. I paid by direct debit but I could never predict when the payment would come out - sometimes it was before payday, and sometimes after! In the end I complained and they delayed my statement by a week or two so they could fluctuate in their usual way but it would always be after payday for me.0

I have just checked online with Barclaycard as to what my next statement will show when it arrives in the next week. They are definitely moving dates around by some days, and reducing the time just after Xmas! I pay off in full so am probably being penalised for this, which is annoying.
Last statement
Pay via bank.... 25th Nov
Due date..........1st Dec.
New statement when arrives
Pay via bank.....19th Dec
Due date..........29th Dec
Heck, just noticed that is 10 days to clear from my bank in December, but suppose they would say Xmas shut down is the excuse! Though why when everything is done via computers and must be pretty much instant I don't know! When I set up payment from my Nationwide account, it is showing on Barclaycard within a few days as paid!

Do barclays still charge users the late payment fee... if they pay (barclaycard) on the due date at a barclays branch ? just thinking barclays maybe a bit fishy about it,
I know for sure HSBC (hsbc mastercard) and Halifax done,(Halifax one card) dont charge if you pay in branch on due date.
EDIT: I paid on my due date at barclays branch, staff said only way to pay on the due date is by debit card via barclaycard online/phone,
I phoned up barclaycard, they said same above, also the reason CS gave me why users cant pay on the due date... because Barclays bank and Barclaycard have 2 different clearing accounts, so the funds would take 2/3 days to clear from Bank to Card, anyways thats what i was told, They waved the late payment fee and interest this time,
But if above is correct HSBC and Halifax must have their Cards services linked to one clearing account, because i have paid on due date on a number of times and never been fined late payment fee, Halifax staff told me the stamp on the statement is my proof that i paid on time,0 -
Mbna plus their A&L card used to do this regularly about 15months ago when the "fine" was£25 a time. They used to move it a week forward each couple of months to catch you out.
Vociferous complaints to CS used to get the "fine" refunded, but I moved away from them.
They got me back with a 4000 points (£20) inducement and since then the statement dates have remained the same each month.;)ac's lovechild0
