There have been several reports of Barclaycard doing this to other customers, so best advice is to keep a close eye on the Due Date showing on your statements.
Hi it happened to us i decided to pull away from Barclaycard after 32 years as a customer
  • I've just had the same happen to me! Unfortunately I was away and wasn't back in time to meet the revised deadline. Phoned customer services and kicked up a big stink. Immediately offered to refund the late payment charge but wouldn't scrap the interest charged. Sent a letter of complaint and will definately be taking my business elsewhere!!!
  • Yes I had this happen a few months ago. It appears to be a deliberate attempt by Barclays to "catch out" those of us who pay off our credit card in full each month to get some interest out of us. When I spoke to their customer services, they confirmed the payment date had changed/reduced because I pay regularly on time and in full - great reward for managing your finances carefully!!!!!

Anyway, I told Barlcays that it was a dirty trick and to cancel my card - they were very apologetic and refunded the interest charges on my next bill. They also gave me an extra 1% cashback for 3 months.

Needless to say I am watching my bills very carefully, and any repeat of these dirty tricks and I will just cancel the card.

They did this to me a few months ago. Then in October I managed to mess up my payment to them and for the first time in a few years had to pay interest as I hadn't paid the balance off properly.

As if by magic the payment date seems to have reverted back to the old date.

This happened to me too about 2 months ago. I was really annoyed as I always pay my balance in full online. I don't even think to look at the date as I do it at the same time every month as it ties in with when I've been paid. Luckily for some reason this time I happened to log on on the 4th (the 'new' due date) to go and see if a refund payment had been cleared and spotted that it had changed, and as it was the very last day I was able to call them and cover it quickly.

It's nice to know why they changed it though as I had a lot of trouble understanding that on the phone. The person who spoke to me didn't have the clearest of accents and just told me it was because I paid it all off every month - er how does that work?!

Anyway I've learnt my lesson and I always check the date now in case they do it again!

Yep this happened to me (and a few others I know). For the past 5-6 months my date has been 18/19th, which I always pay off in full, then when i logged in to pay my bill last month I found they had moved it to the 9th...without warning! I rang to have a moan at them and they were happy to move the date back to normal, however they could do nothing for this months, so I told them that was fine but I do not expect to have suffered any late payment fees/interest and was told they could not do anything as that would appear next month. So this months statement comes and I had a late payment charge + interest on my account, so again I had to ring them up to have another moan at them about it and was told they would "let me off this one time", the cheek! I wonder how many people were caught out by this and have paid the late payment fees, plus all the extra interest they will have generated from those with an outstanding balance! Very sneaky of them!
  • Not just Barclaycard that are at it. MBNA did it to me last month. In fact I got two statements asking for payment in the same month (November) and hit with a late payment fee as well as the interest. When I phoned them the girl said it all works out the same as my next payment wouldn't be till January and I wouldn't get one in December. I did point out that I don't get two wages from my employer in the same month but all she offered was to change my payment date  I don't think so!!!
I'll be paying off any MBNA cards this month and phone them up and tell them to stick all their cards I've got up their @***. Some one else can get the ridiculous charges from the retailers but it won't be MBNA in my case. Robbing Charlatans!!

    Cheers
    Chris.
  • Knowing how sneaky they can be, I wonder if this is a ploy to get you to cancel your card because they don't really want people who pay their cards off in full. Doing it this way, you do all the work, make the decision and they don't get bad press from "sacking" unprofitable customers. They wouldn't, would they??????
  • I have noticed over the last few months my due date has been getting earlier and earlier. Always used to be around the 17th but just checked this bill and is 14th and now I think about it has been different every month.

I don't always pay my account in full but most of the time I try to.

Just a note, although I have not checked the facts, over the years I have always payed off my card every month.
But I seem to remember that the time allowed over the Christmas period was always shorter.
With holidays and post Christmas pressure, do check.
