I have made my parents sounds bad lol! Its a long story , I leant some to then and asked if they could keep it into their bank account because i will spend spend spend with it in my own bank account.. They would give it to me if i really wanted it after already spending loads (like i have this month) but i have asked them not to give it too me unless i really need it , and im getting money else where through childminding so im paying my buddy with money from childminding , whilst still have money saved in my parents account! I have it saved their for learning to drive in Feb! It sounds very confusing! Its all worked out in my head though.
Thanks for the warm and friendly welcomes! I am going to job hunt today , wish me luck!

That makes perfect sense Jess - the old 'give someone else the money/passbook/credit card' trick has been around for a while

Most basic tips for part-time job hunting apply. Look smart, smile and remain friendly and try and give answers to everything you're asked. Even if you can't think up a reply, take a deep breath/drink of water and buy yourself a few seconds to think.
It's also perfectly alright to ask an interviewer to repeat the question, expand on what they mean, or to excuse yourself and start again if you think you've got something 'wrong'

Hi Jess,
Just wanted to add my voice to the chorus of congratulations. Well done you!
I was fortunate enough to discover this site when I was about 15/16 - I am only 21 now - and it has been an absolute godsend. Have to agree about taking the financial advantage of living with your parents when you have a job. I had a full time job after leaving college, and in the space of 18 months, managed to save over £4000 - this paid for all my furniture when I moved out (at 18) and managed to keep me alive and my rent and bills paid during the 6 months I was unemployed (I moved to a different area).
So, save save save - you are very unlikely to have that kind of opportunity again. I still live on my own, earn over £250/week, but now after all my bills etc are paid, I am only left with £50 to buy petrol, electric, food and anything else.
When you do move out though, the one thing I believe will save you the most money is knowing how to cook. So much cheaper than going to the takeaway every night! If you don't know how to cook already, it might be worth asking your Mum/Dad/Gran etc if they could teach you now - even if its only a few basic meals.
Good luck with the job hunt (my first job was in a restaurant kitchen btw - first as a porter  but eventually I got promoted to 2nd chef, then allowed to be 'relief head chef' on Chef's days off!
) We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -
My eldest is 16 and was looking for job to help her through college. I took her round all the local shopping centres and we looked in shop windows as many post vacancies there. Check out websites of the major chains eg Boots, Sainsburys, Asda, etc. We also rang round all the local hotels and restaurants to see if they wanted any kitchen staff or waiters. She's now working at a local hotel as a waitress and can pick her shifts.
Do put together a CV and send it off speculatively, that worked for me when I was a student. Another good way of getting a job is word of mouth - let all your relatives and friends know you are looking for a job and ask if there are any vacancies where they work, though I presume you've already done this.
Also look at the jobcentre vacancies on the web and do a bit of searching to find jobs in your area.
Best of luck in your huntBooks - the original virtual reality.

Hi,
Just thought I might add my comments to spur you on.
I used to be a retail manager and would have given a lot for a young person with your positive attitude when doing many interviews for saturday/seasonal jobs.
What impressed me way more than experience was enthusiasm, being smart for the interview and filling in the application form neatly and with a bit of thought.
Good luck and I really hope you always manage to keep your brilliant attitude.DMP Support Thread Member 238

Hello everyone! All your comments have made me smile! I dont really know what made me want to be so in control! But this site is excellent and helps loads.
I buy the majority of xmas prezzies in the january sales , do hampers now
I also am the main cook in this house , i cook 6 days a week whilst my dad cooks sunday
I cook spag bowl
Curry
Chicken jacket spud and salad (thats a fave of mine)
Bangers and Mash
Roast dinners
Stir fries
Pizza (easy so not really a meal lol)
Pies.
Home made desserts ( if i can be bothered lol!
The idea about the hotels is brilliant i never thought to ring and ask! That will be on my to do list tomorrow! I used to be a waitress in a small cafein my area.. but they couldnt afford to keep me on , i enjoyed it and was confident , only dropped one cup the whole time i was there lol!
Even being a cleaner would be good to me at the end of the day its money and a starting ground!

I am not into designer labels or make up.. so i always save money there. I probably spend way to much on crap like junk food and arcades ect. Need to learn there lol!
I am paying half the debt off today anyway
Going to the shops later will see if i can pick up some application forms!

Hi Jess, I've been at work till not long ago (I work odd hours!) so I haven't yet caught up with all your thread, but I hope you find the right job. Your voluntary work / aupair experience will stand you in good stead, sounds like a fab summer job
Are you hoping to work with children? You might be able to get a modern apprenticeship.
I think you're right about the junk food & arcades
amazing how the money evaporates and you've nothing to show for it (sigh), well, we've all done that one way or another. Why not drop in on the Old Style board and learn how to cook great food for next to nowt - if you aren't already doing so! And I guess the only people to benefit from aracades are arcade owners
.
But don't give up having fun.
