WinXP 2 Upgrading

Options
This is a continuation of this thread I no longer want to use.

Pchelpman,
I took your advice and found myself almost unable to reboot my pc this morning.
I had to perform my updates and shut down my pc, not restart it, cos I had to go to work yesterday to continue this morning.
Not even going into last good configuration would've restarted my pc.

So back in safe mode, I removed the first two security updates in my add/remove list and rebooted.

I am back to normal operation but my pc is still listing as servicepack 1.

Am I missing anything?

If you're having trouble with Microsoft Update, y'can also download SP2 in its entirety from here. Once the download is complete, you can either install it in the usual fashion or use it as the basis for a slipstreamed installation disc.

Thanks Intel. Didn't know that. I think I'll pay a visit to my local PCW and see if they have any as I, too, need a few for some PCs I'm working on. (Won't actually buy anything at their prices though!!) ;)

Thats the only reason I go in their... :rotfl: Freebies.
  • I think I may have made an unintentional mistake when trying to upgrade from XP1 to XP2.

My automatic updates were turned off - another security precaution of mine to prevent my pc from being overloaded by Microsoft junk.

I did try one more time to upgrade only to be given the same problems as before.
I have turned on automatic updates and 'voila' there showed WinXP2 as an available update at 75MB as opposed to the 266MB for the one available to download onto disc which I am copying to disc right now.

I will let everybody know how I am getting on later to be followed with thank you's once I see my pc back to normal operation.

I am grateful to all as of now, please make no mistakes about that.

"For Your Security some settings are controlled by group policy"

I have successfully installed WinXP2 but my pc appears not to be firewall protected and the tool for group policy appears not to be installed. The security on firewall is all greyed out with the dot on firewall off.

    What's missing?
I did interrupt WinXP2 installation cos I had to go out but still got my XP2.
Is XP2 firewall enabled by default even though my stuff says off?
Updates shows I have all the latest.

    :o
    This is embarrasing.
I am removing XP2 to start again - reinstall.
