I must agree wholeheartedly with Toxteth. SP2 fixes many, many security flaws and you should NOT be browsing without SP2.
Do it and do it NOW.

Is Win XP servicepack 3 available? I am no techie.
I was given a copy of SP2 with its own serial number.
I am worried that somebody else might have exactly the same copy for the use of the likes of Microsofts antispyware products which require Windows operating system to be confirmed as genuine.
Should I use this copy or buy my own?
I asked this question before and got no response.
Also, what should I do with Hijact This program? Or do I no longer need it?
I do not particularly want to keep this thread open cos I don't want to be seen as a time waster where I pretty obviously appear to know my answers.

First off...you are not a time waster. In fact, you are very wise to ask about things before taking action. Many people don't.
There is no Service Pack 3 available and Service Pack 2 is avilable free. You don't have to pay for it. If you have it on disk then you can load. Immediately after that go to the official download site here (using Internet Explorer browser only)....

Use the "Express Install" and let it scan/install the latest updates directly from Microsoft.
As to HijackThis I would keep it if I were you. You never know when you might need it. If you hit trouble that results in you not being able to get online you will be grateful you already have it installed.
If all is now working as it should with your PC let us know and we can treat this topic as closed.
