Help finding the perfect dog

One of my work colleagues is looking for a new dog for his mum. Her dog died not too long back and she needs a new companion. She is quite old so the dog would need to be small (otherwise it would just knock her over) and reasonably old as she can't do a lot of playing etc. We are in Scotland, he works here in Edinburgh but lives near Fife and can travel to get the right one.

He has been looking at the dogs in shelters but hasn't been able to find one suitable. Anyone got any idea where we could find a dog that would be okay for his mum?

Thanks for any help!

  • The oldies club would be perfect!

Mrs Tine will be able to give more details as she has worked with them, in the meantime - website here- http://www.oldies.org.uk/

Even if the ideal dog is not on there it would be useful to contact them and let them know she is looking, and her requirements!

Good luck, and I am glad she is looking for a rescue dog - that could be another doggy life saved!

you could also try The Cinnamon Trust http://www.cinnamon.org.uk/ctrust2.html

one of their services is to place bereaved pets, or pets whose owners have gone into care/a hospice, with new owners.

    good luck x

The Oldies website only seems to be in England :( there were some lovely dogs there too but it is just too far.

  • no, they do have at least one dog in scotland, and they are not a kennels as such, more a database of older dogs in rescues or foster all over the place - it would be wrth emailing them, as they may well have contacts more local to you.

Second chance kennels in Thornton sometimes have dogs available & they have a website. Also PADS in Forteviot near Perth - they're really good (we've had 2 dogs from them). It's a bit of a drive but if you call them & let them know what you're loking for they'll let you know if they have anything in & if not will keep your details on file.

It's definitely worth contact the Oldies Club, they have contacts all over the UK, including Scotland, and I'm sure they would be be happy to help her.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

The OC operate as far as Scotland - they work with various rescued as well as being a rescue in their own right (they use foster homes instead of kennels). I know that before now they have assisted with dogs from not only Scotland but Ireland too!
Some of the rescues will only rehome locally but your best bet is to drop them a mail or call them and explain the location and requirements. The ladies who run the rehoming section will be able to then tell you more about the dogs they think are suitable and if transport is a problem then they have a network of volunteer transporters.
