I feel like I've let you down and I'm embrassed because we've just booked a hoilday.:o I'm not hanging my head in shame, but I'm a little disappointed in myself. I know we should be concentrating on debt busting but our DFD was approx June/ July. We had planned to book a holiday after our DFD but we've priced the same holiday in Aug and it's an extra £1000! The holiday has put us back, but we should still hit the end of year target. We've had a tough past 18 months (illness and carp) so this family break is very much needed and has always been on the calender for 2009.
My eldest starts school in Sept and this is the last year we can travel in term time. Our debts are all 0%, so rightly or wrongly we're reducing the payments and using the rest of the surplus for the holiday. I've paid my deposit and have nearly the balance sat in a savings account. As soon as the holiday is paid I revert back to paying max off every month.
I'm not justifying us booking the holiday to anyone and I'm sure you understand we've done the right thing for our family. We could have waited until Aug and then go whilst being DF, but paying an extra £1000 for the honour. In a strange way booking the holiday is saving money. DH has 99.9% job security so we know the small set back will not affect our DF dream.
Just wanted to say that I'm still on the challenge, but I won't be updating my total until after the holiday.
Don't beat yourself up - we all have to make judgements about what and when to spend - and it sounds like your debt is under control and you have made a deliberate choice here. This is not the same as blind spending without thinking about the consequences. Delaying a DFD is entirely for you to weigh up - I know I could be debt free sooner if I cut things back even more - but we would also be miserable - so I am taking longer and being careful but still doing some things that aren't completely essential!0 -
Hi all another £50 was pd on saturday. Hopefully pay more next wk.0

My total for this month......£160.95 off 1 loan, £114.95 off the other £245.92 off the car and £50 off the credit card so a total of £571.82 off my debts, by the end of this year the two loans will have gone and the CC hopefully shifted to another 0% card whist I save up the cash to finish it completely, then tackle the car loan. I want to pay it in 2 1/2 years if I can.....Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0

Hi All,
Am doing somrthing similar to debtfreein2009, I need to buy a new car so all money is going towards that until the end of April, but Im still hoping to be debt free by the end of the year.
I have requested final settlement figures for each of my loans which will save me about £280 in interest which is great (although I am paying them off with my new cc - I have also balance transferred my capital one to tesco and closed capital one) - my tesco card is 0% purchases for 6 months and bt for 12 months so im moving all debt onto it to save my self some interest.
