Thanks pepper - and welcome to the challenge - sorry I took a little while to add you - has been a hectic few days at work. And welcome too penniesgrowintopounds. Good luck both of you - and all of us - on the challenge!
  • Well done on clearing the card Mizmir....

Have paid off £7.56 since last update but have gone backwards.... Have snowballed mine and OH's debt together and despite adding nearly £1900 to the debt total, have only put two months back onto the 'official' DFD:confused:

Have taken all OH's cards away (have cut them all up bar one too, he will NOT be happy about that, but he's playing my game now!) and once the debt is paid, he can have one back (one that I can/will monitor too!)... I know the way we are doing it is not for everyone, but this WILL work!.... I hope!:o

  • Thanks Mizmir - its busy time of year at the minute.

Sarah - well done you. I wish my other half would actually sit down for 5 min to go through all the debt - I know its mostly mine but it affects him to - head in sand though!

  • hi everyone,

    another £75 paid of today!

    have a nice weekend :p
aim to be debt free in 2009.....total so far (24.01.09) £940.45/£15089:eek: ..on my way :money:
  • Pepper - I know exactly what you mean when it comes to getting the OH's to think like we do. Last year I paid £14,000 off our debt and he paid not even £4000 when we'd agreed £1000 min p/month for the year.
Anyone got any ideas about encouraging the significant others to get their little touches into gear?!

To help pay off 0% CC debt - 27.1.15 £7367.12

  • Thanks Pepper.... I was impressed that he actually had a rough idea of how much he owed, although it did take a while to get him to 'fess up... I think he was embarrased more than anything else, he didn't wanna speak to either me or the banks because he was not happy with how he'd handled (or not) his finances.
Smithywilko - Initially I had two seperate snowballs, one for me and one for OH, but as his debts were gonna cost a bomb in charges and interest, it's better for both of us that we snowball together. I didn't encourage him so much as say 'this is what I have done, this is what I am going to do, this is what you need to do' That works for us because OH is rubbish at money stuff and really isn't interested, but that may not work for others. I guess you just have to find what works for you x

  • Just popped in to say Hi.

I've not been 'round much this month and have had a bit of a stay in hospital after an op. Finally I'm back on the road to recovery and back on my dfi2009 mission.

I've been selling bits and bobs on amazon and have a whopping £199.23 to add to Febs bugdet. We get paid on Monday so I'm looking forward to getting the bills & debts paid for another month. I've had plenty to time to re-structure our finance, budgeting and planning etc so I've introduced a money diary. It seems a bit extreme, but I'm going to break it down into daily activities :
o/s balances - to see the effect all the extra payments are having
Transactions - daily movements of money in/out of our accounts
Spending - keep a note of all spendings (all from weekly budget withdrawn once a week)

It's going to take a bit of work, but I think it's worth the effort and should keep me really motivated. I really want MS money or another home accounts package, but think the £30+ would be better off my debts!

Well done to everyone and a huge welcome to the newbies!

  • Argh this is not going to be a good month for paying things - suddenly have a million bills so will only make minimum amounts on everything. :(

SarahNeedle1872 - may have to try that one - he doesn't seem interested so if I just take it and deal then we might get somewhere!!!!!

debtfreein2009 - glad your on the road to recovery - and well done on the Amazon sales, must get myself motivated and go through all of my bits and peices to
