I asked Quidco about the 8 month validastion period which was 4
Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. Sorry to hear about the problems you have had with this transaction. We have recently heard from the merchant that they have chosen to extend the validation period to up to 8 months for the SIM only contracts. Due to a number of people taking out the offer and cancelling their contracts immediately after the transaction has been validated. Spoiling the offer for genuine customers. We understand that this is very frustrating to people who made genuine purchases like yourself, But unfortunately this is beyond our control. We would like to assure you that this transaction will eventually be paid to you and apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment that this situation may be causing you and we would also like to thank you for your patience with this. Kind regards *****, Quidco
  • Thanks Thanatos and Lynsey, really interesting and constructive posts. There does seem to be scope for testing this in some way, using the might of MSE!

That makes for a very interesting point... based on quidco's reply, Vodaphone have changed the terms from 4 months to 8 even for those who took out the offer for 4 months. Now, if what quidco says is true, all those who took out the £120 4 month @ £15 offer via TCB are about to get stung in 3 months time (myself included) despite it currently showing as tracked at £120...

I cant see vodaphone changing the terms on the quidco one and not the TCB one when the TCB one is more expensive to them.

I wouldnt mind contacting her - would you mind PMing me her email addy?

Will post any reponse I get from her here :)
  • what I don't understand is that the offer was on quidco and tcb for quite some time so vodafone must have been happy to offer the incentive for x many people. Now, this magic number must have been passed due to the offer doing to rounds on various forums (I for one would not have noticed it otherwise) so it's understandable that it has been pulled. What would not be understandable, though, is backtracking and requiring that even those who signed up to the offer before it changed are now subject to the new 8 month rule. For me it would be £60 down the drain after four months as I do not need the SIM - fair enough in a way for taking the risk, but it shouldn't be a risk. The offer was there and we signed up in full faith, taking the cashback offer into account when deciding to give our money to vodafone. Without the offer I don't sign up. Therefore, if I don't receive the cashback I would feel conned by vodafone and certainly would do everything possible to avoid them in the future. :(

I do not see cashback from these sites as a gamble and totally agree with Lynsey regarding the fact the our contract for cashbacks are with the cashback sites and not with the suppliers. The sites needs to honoured the original terms regardless the supplier changed the terms later. That is between the supplier and cashback site to deal with.

There is certainly scope to look into the legal route against these cashback sites. Perhaps Martin should read and look into the legality of these cashback sites not honouring the original terms.

Now that would be one really good idea. If any researcher on MSE wanted feedback from me on cashback sites (good and bad) I'd be happy to oblige.
  • Hey Martin, looks like you've got yourself a bandwagon...:money:

    I've been Money Tipped!
If anyone does go down the legal route and fails I'm willing to donate £10 to the 1st person who genuinely tries and loses out financially.
Anyone else want to make this pledge??
The 1st step must be a LBA (letter before action) to give them a chance to sort the matter, the 2nd via MCOL. https://www.moneyclaim.gov.uk/csmco/guidelines_who_can.jsp
Beware though, make sure you know what you are doing and can put in the time and effort needed and make sure you have all details needed if this went to a hearing. Someone who has gone down this route may offer advise and guidance. I've only ever threatened with an LBA and it was sorted each time (mobile phone cashbacks), so never actually got to the MCOL stage.
