I think b&q offer a design service for free ! i know a good plumber and tiler ,had my bathroom tiled (floor and floor to ceiling, bought tiles myself) b&q suite fitted all for well under £3000 ! All i had to do was paint the ceiling ! A bit of organization and you'll save thousands.
mail me on hesho@tiscali.co.uk if interested.
P.S these two tradesmen are always busy i had to wait a few weeks for them but i take that as a good sign !0 -
Just to say Homerite in Penarth Road were brilliant in advising my sister and myself when we wanted to redo my Nan's bathroom (not sure he should have but saved us a fortune)- basically said we wanted a cheap suite and fitted cheap - he advised us to buy a suite ourselves and ring a local plumber to fit it - he was right - B & Q quoted us £1500 to fit their cheapest suite (we used their free design service)- we bought a similar suite in Focus for £250 and a plumber ripped out the old, fitted the new and did a bit of tiling etc for a further £250 - saving us £1000 and the plumber took all the old suite away and did a fantastic job.
(We went to homerite because they did a great job and at a reasonable price of supplying and fitting my Dads shower a good few years before)0 -
Hi all
I would always recommend using B&Q or Wickes etc for the design side of things and then go shopping. There are plenty of places for kitchens and bathrooms around and twice as many on the internet.
Then its just a question of finding the right fitter. If you would like a free estimate then email me at vbsandy@hotmail.co.uk and id be happy to come round and give you a quote. I am based in the Rhondda but travel to Swansea and Cardiff for work as well as local. I have been fitting kitchens and bathrooms for 15 years and can furnish local and national references as well as portfolios. And i'm a one man band which is the way i like it and keeps costs down which seems to be the way the customers like it!
Hope that helps and good luck

Hi, we are in the process of renovating our new house and I found an online bathroom design program. I re-jigged our layout using this and it works really well. The program is a bit basic but it gives you a good idea what you can do with the space and what will fit where.

Good luck!Make me RICH!!!!!!0 -
My bathroom was started on 12th June 2007 and was supposed to take 3 weeks. I finally gave up trying to get all of the problems resolved on 11th June 2008 when
I decided to sort out the remaining problems myself and refused to pay the outstanding balance which they accepted.
The standard of workmanship was appalling. The new bath and shower cubicle both had to be replaced as did the floor and the room was tiled three times before it was even vaguely acceptable.
I would never recommend Homerite to anyone and will never forgive them for the trouble they put us through.

Response From Homerite to Steveroyal 01/02/09:
We are disappointed that Mr Royal has chosen to misrepresent our dealings. Whilst we accept that the initial installation was not up to our usual standard, we addressed all his complaints and rectified the problems. Much of the delay in completion was due to Mr Royal's insistence on representatives from various manufacturer's visiting to inspect the installation and prepare reports.
After all the agreed remedial works had been completed, Mr Royal stated in a letter that his finished bathroom was acceptable. Despite this, he then refused to pay his balance.
A large percentage of our business comes from recommendations from satisfied customers. We can produce numerous letters and completed questionnaires from customers who are more than happy with their new bathrooms and the service they received.0 -
Well, I'm suprised to see my old thread on bathrooms resurrected three years later! Thank you to everyone who replied at the time (if you are all still around) I didn't actually get round to getting my bathroom done at the time...we ended up having an extension & new fitted kitchen instead!
Anyway, I'm now looking at finally doing the bathroom (again) and I'm going to use the advice offered here to plan what I want myself & find someone to fit it & decorate it. Thanks to everone who has replied & i'm still on the lookout for plumbers, tilers etc who will work in Cardiff, so any recommendations still welcome.0 -
Hi bottlered, yes I'm still looking. Had one quote for design & fitting a new bathroom but at nearly £5000 it was rather more than I was expecting....I don't know if this is expensive or not for a small bathroom, so I need to get more quotes. I've replied to your PM.0

Hope someone can help me. I want a new bathroom designed and fitted when I tried last year I just couldn't get a plumber and, although I had chosen the bathroom, I abandoned the plan because no plumbers (and believe me I tried and tried). I live in the Carmarthen area West Wales so if any one has any suggestions or is a reputable plumber, please, please post to this forum.Thanks0
