Our bathrooom badly needs a complete re-do. New suite, decor, etc. We want to contact a few companies for quotes, butunfortunately we don't know anyone who can recommend a company from their own experience, and I hate just plucking them at random from Yellow Pages.

Has anyone here recently had their bathroom done & can recommend a company that covers Cardiff?

yes, I'd be interested too. We're in the same position.

I was advised to visit Elm st. warehouse, now moved to Newport Rd, Cardiff in the business park opposite Mothercare/Dunelm Stores.(next to Boxing Club) But it literally is a warehouse, sinks, baths etc everywhere and I was very confused, staff were all very busy - didn't know where to start, so you need to know what you want before you visit there. Visited Bathstore which is next to McDonalds, Newport Rd, Cardiff and I have to say I was impressed. The staff were very helpful and they have a sale. I told them I wanted a budget cost bathroom and the staff member took us all round the store suggesting mixing and matching items. I asked if he could write everything down for me and in 5 mins he had printed everything out in list form.
We are still looking around but I may go back for some of the items.
I think it will be cheaper to purchase the items and then hire a plumber, but any suggestions would be welcome.
  • Thanks for your reply cariad. I might go & have a look at Bathstore...do they offer a designing & fitting service?
I think what we really need is a reputable company that will do the lot for us rather than having to go & buy everything ourselves & then find a plumber. Probably more expensive I know, but we're both hopeless at DIY & decorating & know nothing about plumbing & fitting bathrooms.

Go to a small companiesmake a decision on gut feelings about how they are and respond also price, forget the big ones with free phone numbers, get three quotes and use your gut feelings based on how they responded,if they are to slick and pushy, say no.The price of courese is a consideration, buy your bath fittings on the net have them delivered to your home, then you get the trade. For eaxample if you put in Slipper bath like I did,it is easy.If you go to a plumbers merchants they might give you names also seek personal recommendations

I've just had my kitchen done by a small firm in Usk - the son did the kitchen, I think his father does the bathrooms.
The work was immaculate, excellent price and he worked morning to night without even stopping for a lunchbreak!!

mail me on [email protected] if you want their contact details.
  • [email protected] & cariad - you still looking?
  • Hi bottlered, yes I'm still looking. Had one quote for design & fitting a new bathroom but at nearly £5000 it was rather more than I was expecting....I don't know if this is expensive or not for a small bathroom, so I need to get more quotes. I've replied to your PM.
  • we have kitted out, our downstairs loo, bathroom & ensuite using

I e-mailed Dammam on [email protected] for the details of the kitchen fitters he used from Usk a couple of weeks ago without reply, does anyone have the details?

  • realy not sure [email protected], we walked in, having a good idea of what we wanted and a got that for a fraction of what we expected to pay.

we didnt need a plan, or a design as we already knew what we wanted, i guess you can always give them a ring ? ? good luck. xx
