Why thank you BMF :T something I'd never thought about, throwing away the crumbs from the bottom of the packet was something that really bothered me

I'm not a pastry lover, can I use filo pastry due to it being lite?

You could always make a little tart size one to experiment 10past6, probably create a posh looking dinner-guest type pud by using filo:rolleyes:

Sunday lunch pud yesterday to get myself back on the OS wagon.

Easy to make with the kids too.

    Treacle Tart (serves 4-6)

    pastry :8 oz/225g plain flour
4 oz/110g butter or block margarine
cold water (about 2 fl oz)

    6 tbsp golden syrup
    2 oz /50 g breadcrumbs

Using your fingertips rub the cold fat into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add the cold water and mix in with a table knife. Bring the mixture together to form a ball of dough and wrap in cling film and put in the fridge for half an hour.

    Preheat the oven to 200 C/400 F/ Gas 6.

Roll out the pastry and use to line a 18-20 cm tin.
Spoon the syrup over the pastry and sprinkle the breadcrumbs on top.
    Bake for about 20 minutes.

Cost - about 40p in total.
    Yum...

I love treacle tart too. There's one I've been meaning to try from Nigella Express. It's a treacle roly poly- you spread golden syrup over a rectangle of shortcrust pastry, roll it up, bung it ina dish , pour milk round and bake. As Nigella would say 'what's not to like?'

My most frequently made pud has to be Chocolate Fudge Pudding. The recipe I use is here.

I have another favourite chocolate dessert. It is a bit more expensive because you need chocolate rather than cocoa. I found it on a French recipe site. It is basically a white sauce into which you melt chocolate. You then pour it into ramekins or little glasses and chill. It has a lovely texture. Here's the recipe:

    Creme au chocolat

Makes about 13 (yes really!) small pots- serves the 5 of us on Sat, Sun and the kids again on Mon.

Melt 50g butter in a heavy-based saucepan, stir in 40 g of flour and make a roux(paste), gradually add 1 litre of milk whisking all the time. Add 100g sugar, whisk till dissolved. Next add 200g dark chocolate broken up. Keep the heat fairly low and carry on whisking. Continue to whisk while it thickens. It won't thicken a lot -about the consistency of thick cream. Pour into pots, let it cool and then chill. It thickens as it cools.
  • ok, you've all made me really hungry now, has anyone got the recipe for macaroni pudding as i'm intrigued!

    Macaroni Pudding
    Tapioca (Frog Spawn)
    Semolina
    Blancmange
    Creme Caramel
    Treacle Pud and custard
    Spotted !!!!!!
    Bread and Butter Pudding
    Banana Custard
I could go on but I wont bore you too much
Oh and my kids are not overweight because they don't tend to snack on crisps and chocolate cos they have had a nice homemade Pud!
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I make Bread pudding a,d bread and butter pudding a lot.
I have been making "Impossible Pie" recently, (Old style recipe thread) which has gone down really well.
I also make a welsh tea bread (no fat) it's one I used to make as a Tupperware demonstrator. I'll try and find the proper receipe and put it on here.:T

Sponges in the mocrowave are easy, and I also do a chocolate one that the sponge rises up through the sauce. That's a women's institute one.

My family would be really cross if I didn't produce a pudding most days, and on a Sunday, It's a must!
    I Believe in saving money!!!:T
