As some of you already know, I've borrowed my dad's PC to update a few bits and bobs (he's on dial up). Which free anti-virus software should I be installing onto his Dell PC (running Windows XP)? He presently has McAfee but hasn't subscribed and hasn't updated for some time!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Lots of choices.I've used AVG,Avast and Avira in the past. All get good reports and are free.I now use kapersky full suite, which is very good.0

AVG has been less popular recently with reports of it slowing systems down. It did with my old XP system, and I replaced it with Avast. Avira is also very well liked.0

many of the geek websites recommend the free version of Avira anti-virus and i have used it myself for 8 months and think it is good. It also does not slow down your computer a lot - some paid versions like McFee do.0

cannot verify this (as i haven't used it) but many say that mcafee does nothing: can't detect, won't detect :rotfl:BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

Have a read of the following thread for a discussion of Anti-Virus software. To summarise I'd say my choice for a free AV is Avira AntiVir.
My choice for a paid AV would either be ESET NOD32 or Kaspersky with, for me, NOD32 winning.
