Can a cracked windscreen be repaired?

  • I'm getting it replaced anyway, £117 inc VAT.....not as bad as I thought!

And if it was on the insurance they'd probably charge £417.00
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

    I was on company business!!

If this is your own private car, have you added business use?
  • I have a 9 inch crack on the screen of one of my Sprinter Van, on the nearside edge. I had it repaired in July 2007 by Opti-Kleer, one of those Franchised screen repair companies you see in supermarkets sometimes.
He took great care to stabilise the crack by drilling the ends of the crack and filling with glue. You can barely see the crack. The van has done 75000 miles more since then and passed an MOT. Cost was £25 cash.
  • My other half has a car on finanace, 170 a month

If she has the cash can she pay the balance off early and pay an admin fee?

I wont be seeing her until the weekend so cant look at the paperwork until then

    cheers

No......it's a company car leased from ING. According to my company windscreens are not covered under the lease agreement (unlike Tyres, Exhausts, mechanical problems etc) and their insurance doesn't have windcreen cover.

It just doesnt seem right to me and when ive had company lease vehicles before EVERYTHING has been covered!

If your policy doesn't have windscreen cover, then you will have the normal excess to pay.

So check if it is a worthwhile proposition to put a claim in and have it on your record for years to come. The affect it has on future premiums may mean it will cost more to make the claim than to just pay yourself. If you decide to do this, make sure your insurer marks the cracked windscreen down as "information only", and hasn't already marked it down as a claim.

I do wish people would read the thread before commenting!

As ive explained previously, its not my car, its a company car and company insurance with NO windscreen cover AT ALL........you cant make a claim if its not covered!

    Don't get uppity!
My lovely company claim that they don't have windscreen cover on their insurance and it's up to me to get windscreen repaired/replaced and claim the money back.

I took it to mean you don't have a separate section in your policy regarding glass replacement (most policies do, whereby a glass claim is treated separately to any other damage claim).

People post to try and help, but if all you do is tell them off for doing so, you will end up getting none! We see you broke site rules already, and now you can't even be polite.
