i had run 'memtest', but didnt get any warning/messsage about duff ram.

the psu is a 400w and i try and give the base unit a good hoovering every now and then

my hard disk drive is SMART enabled, but recently had taken to stating that something is wrong and disk is marked bad, we then have to press 'F2' to continue (i have been backing up data regularly - as info says this is a prelude to disk crashing for good)
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)
  • I've had it with a duff AMD processor, underclocking it slightly solved the crashing, a good clean is always a good place to start, followed by an OS reinstall to remove software as being the culprit.
I guess 5bellies means conversion, convertx2dvd takes around 14 minutes + burn time for me on a 3ghz quad

  • if smart is giving warnings, dump the drive before it fails completely

i thought it might have been, just wasnt over confident that replacing it would solve the issue, but i suppose £50 as apposed to £300 is a better/cheaper option

anyone recommend decent hard drive (not sata - unless you can point where to check if my motherboard will allow it)
    current disk is 200gb

  • I always use Western Digital drives, they come with a five year warranty. To check if your board supports SATA look for two or more small red connectors on your board, if you look closely they will say SATA_1, SATA_2 etc

If you do have S-ATA let e know as I have a new 500GB S-ATA drive I could let you have cheap ;)

look on your motherboard, if you have some sockets like the blue ones in the picture, you have SATA, and get get more capacity for less money :)

Yes you can, but you will need to install your OS on the SATA drive and ensure this is set as the first boot device in the CMOS.
