Hi, my cat has been scratched on the end of his nose, probably about a week ago. It has scabbed over but a little of the scab is now coming off and some pus has come out of it. I'm gonna take him to the vets as soon as I can get an appointment but just want to know whats best to give it a clean with some salt water or watered down dettol?
Remember ....its not a bargain unless you need it

I think whatever you clean it with isn't going to go down too well!
Dettol being antibacterial will probably be your best bet as on the nose he can't lick it off. Anywhere else I'd have said salt water.0 -
Please DO NOT use Dettol it's Toxic to cats as far as I know & I think could cause burns also! Call & ask the Vet advice x0

I think you are right it won't go down well at all but I think it should be sanitised with something, perhaps salt water is the best best as I didn't know dettol was toxic to cats.Remember ....its not a bargain unless you need it0

I'm not 100% but I googled & it seems it's bad stuff to give them, not suprised either! We have Vets on here i'd wait & ask them or call your Vet now, they'll give advice. I definitely wouldn't ever put it on my cats, might even be something on the bottle about it? Salt water i'd've thought would be ok x Hope cat is ok soon0

And to reiterate what you've just mentioned - please please please.....NEVER use Dettol on any animal as an antiseptic or skin disinfectant.....EVER! Especially cats......it can cause horrendous caustic burns on their tongues and lips which I can only imagine would be awfully painful.
From a website, I hope the OP hasn't used it!0 -

Wow thank goodness I have no dettol in the house, I just googled it too and it is indeed toxic to cats apparently as is most thinks that turn cloudy in water i.e. tcp, zoflora, etc. So will stick to salted warm water and a vets appointment.Remember ....its not a bargain unless you need it0 -

Apparently if they ingest it from getting it on their paws and licking its not too good for them either so be careful what your cleaning your floors with or wait for it to dry before letting kitties walk on them.Remember ....its not a bargain unless you need it0 -
This happened to my cat last week. We use some mild salt water (warm not hot- allow it to cool down) and get her/ him to the vet asap as they will probably need antibiotics (because of the pus).0
