  • Hi everyone,

Thought i hadn't done a lot of flying today as we took the boys out for the day, but i think i did actually. I'm poopered now, my throat and back are hurting, and my head aches. It was really freezing, but worthwhile as the boys had a great time.
    • This morning we were up just after 6 with both boys, and we sat reading books with them in bed for about half an hour at DS1's request
    • we got a load of DH's washing on,
    • and got a carrot and lentil soup in SC before
    • going to fill my car with petrol (using up Mr M 50p off voucher)
    • doing a food shop (get another till receipt for the promotion)
    • posting our christmas cards
    • picking up some of the black floristry tubs they left by the door - i haven't seen any for ages so got some for our garden for growing veg next year
    • came home, put shopping away
    • sorted some snacks/drink for the boys and a flask for us
    • drove to sundown
    • had lunch
    • played about there with DS1 for 4 1/2 hours
    • came home
    • all ate the yummy soup
    • played with the boys some more,
    • made charlie empty the WM for me, and got DH to clean the oven with white vinegar for me,
    • got the boys to bed
    • made up bottles
    • sorted all washing up
    • got another load of washing in - DH's work stuff.
The house still looks like a bomb has gone off, but who cares really. DH is off out to work about 9:30ish, i'm sat in PJs, and i think i will probably read a book or something in bed when he goes.

Tomorrow is another day for getting on. We weren't planning on going out, i just got up this morning, saw the sun shining and it wasn't too frosty, and suggested it. Not at all like me to be so spontaneous, and i definitely should do it more often.

valli and lil-me glad to hear both your boys are feeling better

chunky glad you found my link to the book helpful. Perhaps good timing as it will give you something else to think about IYSWIM. Let me know how you find it - perhaps we can share tips when you try it.

summermoon glad today went well. It's good your hours are spread over the week like that. My sister started for the xmas rush on the checkouts, and that was about 3 years ago and she hasn't looked back. She says some bits are better than others, like she sometimes gets asked to supervise, and working in the petrol station suited her as they could sit around drinking tea and chatting. She doesn't like the self service tills though. She told me there were a few teenagers trying to scan bits of themselve last Friday night. I'm fully aware of the delights of teenagers so i laughed at that. I'm sure within a week it will be second nature to you.

Juliejim i want to echo what Anw's mum said. I spent time chatting with your DD when we met up, and she was chatty and confident, not inappropriate in any way, although i also appreciate what you say about that being with strangers. Have you thought about really praising when both of your kids speak in the manner you are happy with? It's how we are trying to get charlie to do things. I know he is much younger, but positive praise works so well. I think if she were asking in a non-pleasant way and your DS asked in a much nicer way and got what he wanted, she is bright enough to notice that. Perhaps a chat with your DH about it. Not saying you are doing x,y,z wrong with her. Perhaps approach it as i've had this problem with her acting like this, i think it might be the way i talk to her, what do you think we should do. Then perhaps say, i would like to try this, but i only think it will work if we both do the same thing all the time, and if we are not then we'll have to point it out to each other. If he agrees, then it would give you opportunity to point out when he does it. Do his parents talk like that? I notice that my FIL and BIL really talk to each other in a bad way, but it doesn't happen with my DH and FIL. FIL still talks like that to him, but my DH is laid back and doesn't react to it. DH has tried talking to me like that, but i soon put a stop to that when he started it. Childcare techniques tend to get passed on through the generations.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings for now. Enjoy your evening everyone, i may be back, depends how cold it gets. I'm not getting in bed cold with no dH to warm my feet on.

  • michelle - sounds like you all had a lovely day - yes you will have to be more spontaneous - the weather and children are not always in line with our planned events so grab occasions when you can!!
meant to say before - I got Getting things Done and have enjoyed it - some good ideas/tips that I need to get into practise - I am going to read it again and try things out this time - it was a library copy and someone else was waiting for it - but managed to get one of my own so i can take my time reading.

  • quiet here tonight.

Toots, i am really glad you have found GTD useful. it is so useful i would never loan my copy, as i refer to it a lot. I find i am more productive when i am at work or more time pushed as when i'm at home all day i just think oh stuff it, i'll do it later, and there is always an excuse. If i have no time, it has to be then.

That web link was good. If i were at school i would have enjoyed showing that to the kids.

Right - definitely bed time here. I have been getting about 6 hours kip a night, and there are only so many nights you can do that for without it catching up, and no doubt we'll be up about 6 again.

Nighty night one and all, sleep tight.

Michelle, sounds like a fab day, extremely busy too, I am sure your little ones will sleep well tonight. Hope you get more than 6 hours too.
toots my 9 year old has that saved on his PC
Sexymouse, I agree, share the book name/isbn see if any of us spot it on our travels, plenty of book junkies on here.

toots & michelle I've looked at that book before, it's good, another one I enjoy reading is 'Why am I so disorganised' My main problem with this book is I keep loosing it which is completely ironic!

Right, order put in on Argos, went through some stuff with DS2 and he wanted Magnext which is half price on Argos :D cool, so he got double the amount IYSWIM couple of other things he wanted too. I ordered me a mini mouse for this laptop :( wanted the pink one but they had ran out, only ordered one as it came to £49.04 and was free delivery over £50 so thought may aswell have a £4 mouse I need than pay £5.80 delivery. Common sense? Anyway that's the Argos stamp on our card, not that it matters as we must have over 15 stamps but dotted all over the place.

DP seems to be pulling round a bit, kept something down (Ben and Jerry's icecream! fixes a number of illnesses) He's suggested taking the boys to feed the ducks tomorrow, don't believe it'll happen, didn't last time, but nice thought, I'll take them again if he doesn't.

I'm going to need to do some flying tomorrow if Mam is coming over, there is boxes where her fold out bed needs to go, need to get some uniforms washed/dried too. Might start a few bits tonight....:( don't think the PC desk is going to fit in my room, won't be able to get through the door. 2 options new smaller desk or change plans...probably end up changing plans.

:rotfl: Should I buy DS1 a shovel for Xmas? My Dad has bought him a metal detector, I just know he's going to want to dig up peoples gardens. Great that my Dad knows him well enough to buy for him, he said 'I hope it helps encourage him to go outdoors when he's away at the caravan' which proves he listens to what I say too. Just a shame I have to specifically list all of the things they want for DPs family.....
One day I might be more organised...........

    Hello all

julie - have just read your post from last night about DD. Am no expert but if she's bright I guess it's worth talking with her about it honestly. I was similar in some ways in that I didn't like to just sit etc and was bright...I used to much prefer being with adults to other kids.

Nice evening at in laws, big family gathering, nice meal etc. Very hot there though and DH wasn't feeling too well (didn't even have a beer or glass of wine!!) so we came home about 8.30 and have been chilling since. My pudding was the most popular which was nice and has been requested for boxing day!

Wrapped some prezzies earlier including the secret santa for work party, now just need to remember to take it! Might do the rest of the wrapping tomorrow though I don't feel quite festive enough yet but I know if not it'll be Christmas eve cos i'll keep putting it off! Not put our tree up yet, probably won't until at least next Sat.

Tomorrow I need to do the bedroom and loads of washing, plus fill the wheelie bin as they finally emptied it today (had to phone council yet again as not collected for 2 weeks) and it goes again in tuesday, anyway i'll write a list later!
