Racoon if you have been working then regardless of what your wife does you should get contribution based JSA, that's what I get and my DH works 45hrs pw.
if you've got a qualification equivalent to GCSE/A-level (can't remember which) then you won't be entitled to gov training anyway unless your un-employed for 12mths and even then you might not get anything (this fact really does annoy me, just because we actually bothered to go to school and pass exams we are now punished!) as for the BNP bunch of racists if you ask me but its your choice0 -
I have to go to the Jobcentre for the first time in my life on Friday - I fully expect to be messed around and patronised, but I don;t care because I know I am better educated than them, I don;t need their help to find a job, and all I want is the money I'm entitled to after years of paying taxes so I will nod and smile at them until I get it. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

It's nice of you to go there with such an open mind. When I had a period of unemployment and claimed I was never patronised or messed around. I hope the hardworking people at the jobcentre manage to surpirse you and your low expectations.
Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have.0 -

I have been claiming from jsa since april 2008. I worked full time as a clerical assistant from 1986 at BT till 2002 when we were outsourced to Steria UK. Last april we were offered voluntary redundancy over 22 years. I have a £46,000 mortgage which works out to £350 a month. I have been overpaying my mortgage by £50 a month. My house needed a full re-wire and plaster, I had lived here for seven years not being able to afford it. that is now done. the redundancy package was not enough to pay off my mortgage but the improvements had to be done at a cost of £8k. I have also been paying all my bills using the money. I was on £16,500 travelling to mcr and also out of that came my csa payments to my daughter £120 a month. I chose to apply for jobs in bury, rochdale and surrounding areas but decided I could afford £14,500 a year if I stayed local. I have a car, a 15 year old mazda and I shop around for everything. I have £5k to last me and I have been applying non-stop internet jobs, agencies, had cv re-done by next steps, stayed in to stop using petrol money. Yet the jsa when I go expect me to work for £12k a year and they say what about manchester? So I say that paying the petrol to do 16 miles or more every day whacks it out of my monthly wage and I end up owing more in debt. also I am 41 and tired of the driving to manchester, yet they think I should travel more?? They do not realise I have to travel also to see my daughter aged ten who lives in chester. Its ok when you are young but as you get older you get more stressed and tired.
My bills top £700 a month and I live alone. I am doing a ecdl essentials course, yet the jsa can never offer me free training or anything. Yet I paid into the system for 22 years and my benefit is now means tested after six months. I still get £60.50 a week but it is really paltry. When I start agency work soon I will put a claim in for refund tax as my payment from redundancy was over £30k and apparently I can claim back that overpaid tax I paid in April 2008.
I am disappointed with the lack of support from jsa but I always wait for my appointment as I search the job centre site every single day from home. My laptop is hardly ever switched off.Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230 -

Only based on other people's experiences. oh, and my experience of the people on the phone I've had to deal with regarding my JSA claim so far. :j

How do you know that you are better educated????? Do you know that for a fact???? Do you know what qualifications I have, for example???
No... I thought not!!! What a great attitude to have - what a perfect specimen of human kind!!
Personally, I hope you get treated the way you deserve.....Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!0 -

That should be as a genuine person seeking work until proved otherwise, not some job shy layabout.
I do appreciate however that the staff are only following government orders.
In my last few weeks signed on, I had to sign on weekly rather than fortnightly. This was the only contribution that the JSA made to my job searches.
As previously mentioned, a job seeker will need to find a job themselves, not rely on the JSA. That is of course except for those who used to work for Woolies, as Jaqui Smith has promised extra help and training for those unfortunate people. I will not hold my breath waiting for that to materialise.0 -
As well as the unhelpful and patronising staff, The Jobcentre round our end is also like a bloody pub. Most of the time it's a chav haven, with them drinking their crap cider outside and starting sh8t.
As said it's better to find your own job.0 -
I find it quite ironic that unemployed people are taking pot shots at the employed people at the job centre trying to help them.
