I'm 24 and work for a ultraviolet light company, on 16.5k and commission (although very low commission).

Good and bad sides to the job - I do pretty much everything from creating and maintaining the web site, all marketing, organising exhibitions, accounts, basic admin, processing orders, answering the phone, generating sales leads, visiting prospective customers, etc, etc!! (thats the bad side to my job!).

Good side is we deal with so many industries so when I am out of the office its not as if I'm visiting the same types of people and businesses every week.

I am a reelstand operator working at a newspaper printers. We work shifts, I would like to do something else to help supplment my income but have yet to find the right thing.

I want to try and get my grandads book published after the wedding is out of the way. It is his life story and his experiences during the start of WW2

But getting books published is ment to be very hard so we shall see how that goes.

I was a college librarian till I had to retire early through ill health.

Got bored eventually and became an agent for the Utility Warehouse.
Love it and its more than doubling my pension.

Recently also decided to "go green" and have joined a company called Wikaniko promoting eco friendly products from home.

It was easy to have a safe permanent job in my day and age and I feel sorry for the youngsters starting out nowadays.

Now, even some teachers have to go contract to contract, and that was the ultimate safe job at one time.

This has been such an amazing thread - what a variety of work we humanity create!!!
  • I'm 39, a single parent of two and I've just finished training to be a Hairdresser, so looking for work. I love hairdressing & wish I'd have done it years ago. I was a Social Worker, the money wash much better but I hated it.

25, used to lecture in a college of performing arts, now I work in Social Services after quitting teaching cos I couldn't stand the bureaucracy I had to deal with! But alongside my current job i'm getting back into freelance dance teaching - much less hastle and way more fun!!

The money is pants tho for my main job as i'm an agency worker - get 5 grand less than my counterparts (some of whom must have given amazing interviews cos thy're not the best @ the job!) but hey ho, theres not much around where I live these days so I'm just thankful to be earning at all!!
