Every day for me too, I have a spreadsheet that I try and update everytime I buy something, but always like to check that I've not missed anything and it helps we to always know just how much I've got left in the pot for the month0

I check every day, first thing in the morning......and generally at least once or twice more each day too.....Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0

i check mine daily apart from sundays and my fella's about 3 times a week because he's not in debt! i think that's the only way - also if it doesn't match my spreadsheet then something's wrong and I spent something that I forgot about and my budget's shot so it makes me cross!0

Since I had my lightbulb moment, I'm checking my account all the time now either online or by phone banking - I've even been known to call phone banking from my mobile while out to double check my account. (I have a geographic phone number for my phone banking so can call from my mobile out of my allowance without having to pay extra for the 0845 equivalent.)
For the week to 10 days after I get paid, which is when my few remaining direct debits go out and when I do the main bulk of my essential-but-boring shopping, I'm checking it at least every day, sometimes even more than that. Later in the month, I probably check it at least every other day. I also keep a spreadsheet to keep track of everything.
Despite now being on a DMP and still owing a whopping load of money, it's fantastic having a bank account that's still in credit on the day before payday, even if the balance reads 1p!
A year ago, I rarely looked at the state of my bank account. I just knew it was in a bad way, and that was frightening enough without actually seeing it in black and white! I had little idea how much was (not) in my account. I was living in my overdraft for well over a year so the account balance always started with a minus sign and the number after it just got bigger throughout the month.
I totally understand the dread you feel. Keep posting here, particularly if you decide to take a peak at your balance and it makes you feel bad - everyone here is brilliant and have some fab advice on what to do next.
Wishing you good luck and very best wishes for the future.Debt Jan 2008: £45,566. *** June 2013: DEBT FREE! ***
