  • Im actually suprised she didnt try to escape and feel very lucky that she was content just playing with the bar or goodness knows what could of happened.

I will post another photo in a second of her in the cot but its clear she could of managed to get her head through the gap and may of really hurt herself.

Im just thinking through what to say to Mothercare as its just not good enough - another baby could be seriously hurt if there is a problem with the glue or something

  • Mothercare couldn't care less, my sons cot was the same 11 years ago. He pulled the bars out of a £200 cot, we binned the cot in the end and got no compensation or an apology.
These things happen, I would request a replacement cot.

When my DD was a baby her cot came from Mothercare. My sister told me there was a recall notice in the Daily Mail regarding her cot - the play beads could come loose. I took it back to Mothercare and they didn't know about the recall notice and were not going to accept it back till I proved it was in the newspaper. I was really annoyed that the store was unaware of the recall notice and the fact I had bought it mail order and it had been delivered to my home address so Mothercare knew I had one. At my insistence they rang HO and I was offered a replacement or refund. I would have liked a refund but limited suppliers and I needed a cot for her to sleep in that night.

p.s I kept DD in my bedroom till 9 months old. I would have kept her till 12 months as I had read somewhere that the incidence of cot death was lower in Asian families where it was normal for baby to sleep in same room as parents till their 1st birthday. I gave in at 9 months though as her chatting to herself was driving me bonkers:o

    she is adorable!!!

My little one (though not as little as yours) also pulled out the bar - i went into her room one morning and i swear she was making "woosh" noises (a la star wars light sabre style) as she waved the bar around her head!!

I did try glueing it back in, but once it was out, it was very easy to pull out again. The biggest fright she gave me was when she pulled out a couple at the other side (against the wall) and got herself wedged upside down half way out - ie. bum in cot, head on floor. She was fast asleep ........

I think if your cot has only lasted a few months, then maybe as well as the other options, how about trading standards, as something has to be fit for purpose (i think that is the sale of goods act, but my knoweldge is a little rusty!!)

    Awww bless :D

Poppy & Broken hearted itdoesnt sound as though you have had a good experience with Mothercare in similar circumstances. I think i will ask for a refund rather than a replacement as we do have the brand new cotbed in her room so another tiny cot now would probably be a waste as it wont be used for very long.

Thank you abby1234519 & Jetcat, she is sooooooooo beautiful and just a perfect baby :D but you still cant have her lol

Jetcat OMG i cant stop laughing at the image of your daughter waving the bar around her head then getting herself wedged and still sleeping lol

I have pushed all the bars back in but its exactly as you say and they just dont go back in properly and im a little reluctant to glue it all as i may need to show the cot being like this.

With regards to Trading Standards i think i will give Mothercare a opportunity to respond before contacting them but whatever Mothercare say i will be contacting them and will make Mothercare aware of such. I realise the cot was only around £70 and the mattress probably cost me more but it should withstand a baby sleeping in it for 7/8 months (she had a small crib before this)
