What's the strangest "substitute" item you've been offered on your home delivery?

Think the substitutions must differ slightly in terms of where you live- its done in the actual store so if the store is always busy, you are likely to get alot of substitutions, likewise if its small or the staff are very young. (Hate to be stereotypical but its true!)
I don't order from any of them anymore, not only do I eat alot of fresh fruit and veg which always ends up bruised or old when its unpacked but the substitutions are on heavy things, I normally have to go out to the store as soon as the delivery person has been and gone.
I think they need to start promising substitutions that you select yourself, or offering products with no charge. Its effectivly stealing, I would even go as far as to say fraud, to choose something and assume you will just pay for it. (And yes I know they have a get out clause in the terms and conditions box)!0 -
I find Asda the worst with wierd subs. Like chicken when I wanted bacon. When it first began, Tesco's used give me other peoples shopping along with my own quite a lot. I once had about 3 extra bags of shopping that clearly someone was doing some baking. Even got 3 victoria sponges once.0

I ordered 12 tins of Whiskas cat food from Asda and it was substituted with 12 tins of Pedigree Chum (dog food)!!
What were they thinking?
I'm wondering if it was me that delivered it to you! But it was about 2 years ago.
I remember saying to the customer "Do you know of anyone with a dog because you've got such a good 'price match' on it?" The 'picker' must have been on la la land that morning!DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

Unless it's different at other ASDAs, it's the pickers themselves that decide on the substitute. This is what happens at the ASDA I work at. I'm a driver but I'm also picker trained so know how it all works.
Just a note... Please remember that the driver hasn't actually picked your shopping so please vent your anger at the store and not the driver (we find some of the subs hilarious too!)DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

This is so funny - thought it was just me who got strange things! I ordered a little square batteries to go in a smoke alarm, and they swapped them for two giant cylinder batteries. Fat lot of use!0

Not in sainsbugs (according to a staff member)Apparently the pickers sometimes ask her whether they have picked a decent substitute.

Oh my this thread brings back some memories, I used to work in home shopping and had the joyous task of checking what substitutes had been picked and then correcting the more weird ones!!
And it isn't done by computer...it's the person picking the order that decides what they are giving you as a substitute (and to whoever asked at asda you pay the cheapest price (eg you order asda beans and we sent smartprice, you pay for smartprice, if we sent heinz you'd pay however much the asda beans would of been))
We did discover the best mistakes are made by youngsters still living at home who don't do grocery shopping (don't ask why they would then be employed to pick someone else's shopping, never could figure the manager out!)
but back to topic, best i remember kitchen cleaning wipes sent instead of feminine wipes!!! or the girl who kept snapping french sticks in half to make them fit in the tub!!0 -
I know in sainsburies that pickers have to choose themselves! they get the choice of what they think is suitable! (dont accept something which isnt! if they get not returns/complaints they think they did a good job lol!)
Anyway my most recent one was my vegetarian burgers swapped for some bacon. And some vegetarian soup swapped for some beef stock.
And bovril instead of marmite.
I obviously had a joker on mine lol:jThe Money Saving Wannabe :j
