I ordered smoked salmon from Tesco and they sent Salman Rushdie.

He was very nice about it when I sent him back.

I think the Tampax/Twix was a great substitution, a woman needs chocolate at that time of the month!

I had 4 jars of Horlicks instead of 4 packets of malted milk biscuits. It's a shame that none of my family liked the horlicks drink because I was only charged the price of a packet of biscuits for each jar! That's Tesco for you

Once did my online shopping through Tesco. The guide price was about £50, but there were loads of BOGOFs so I expected it to come way below that. There was about £60 in my bank account. On the delivery date I got a call from the store saying my card had been declined, and I had to do a swift bit of online banking to zap some money into my account. It turned out they had been a bit creative with the subs (i.e. more expensive stuff than I'd asked for). I've not been back to Tesco since.

When I used to use Tesco they once sub'd my wholemeal with seeds, gluten free loaf for a regular white sliced loaf

This is dead annoying. I ordered 3 tins of tomatos at £1 for 3. Surprise surprise they were substituted with 3 tins for £1.06 each. Sent them back. But you can opt for no subs on the tesco site.

Is this the most sensible substitution? Delivery from WaitroseDirect this week. For a cucumber they had substituted 2 x half cucumbers.......but had supplied these free of charge! Seemed a good deal to me!

This would be a brillian sub as far as I'm concerened as I very rarely buy a full cucumber when 2 halves equal the same as a whole one....

Next time you go shopping, pick up a whole cucumber and 2 halves (but the 'shorter' end ones not the 'handle' ends. Now measure them. You'll find the 2 halves are usually longer! (and the 2nd half is still sealed and may keep fresher longer too!)

I haven't had any dodgy subs, I did once get a delivery with no meat in it, presumably someone else was very happy with their bonus meat - no apology when I phoned CS. They also only sent me 2 bottles of wine at £6 each rather than 3 for £10. Odd free tin as well when the picker has picked 2 instead of 1.
