Last overcharge I had was last friday, small tins of John West fruit salad on roll-back from 38p to 20p so I bought 3 tins, but was charged 38p. went to CS and queried it, got my 54p back, no arguments, but the £2 giftcard was not freely offered, although there was no problem giving it to me when I asked for it - seems like they are a bit cheeky with this and only give it to you if you know about it and ask for it.

Totally agree with this. I shop mainly at the Clapham Junction Asda (where I was first made aware of the £2 policy when the customer service assistant there willingly gave me a Christmas Savings Card with £2 on it and explained the system - admittedly, this was about 3 or 4 years ago now...!!).

Anyway, I find that the best way to deal with this is to queue up, get your refund, and then, just as the assistant is "finishing" the transaction (i.e., you've signed the necessary refund receipt and received your cash back, etc, etc), I pass over my Christmas Savings card and say (very politely and with a lovely smile... ;)) "could you put the £2 on here, please". Only once have I had a query "what £2?" and when I explained, they soon gave it to me anyway - at all other times, the customer services assistant has just taken my card and put the money on with no quibble.

I do this very discreetly and don't make a fuss about it (although I often notice that the people in front of me don't do it - I feel like telling them, but selfishly don't want to jeopardise the system for those of us who do know about it...!! :o).

My main gripe is that our Customer Services desk shuts at 10pm, so although the shop is open 24hrs, if you get overcharged after 10pm, you can't even get the refund you are entitled to, let alone the £2 giftcard!

  • Does anyone have a link to this policy on the website? I tried the link on the previous page which took me to the FAQ page but I couldn't see anything on there

    Thanks

    Hi,

I have been overcharged twice in the last few weeks in Asda. One was on a face cream advertised at £5 and charged £8, then this Saturday a DVD with a £3 tag on it cost £5, got the difference back both times from CS, where the lady who's on the desk is very unhelpful in our store, but no gift card, will email them now. Thanks for this.

I was overcharged in Asda Carlisle last week, went to customer services and they gave me back the money I was overcharged and £2 giftcard without being asked.

Iwas overcharged on Saturday for some pasties which are normally 1.66 but should have been on offer for 80p they actually went through at 1.88 on both packets. Went to customer service they did all the usual checks couldn't explain why it had happened gave me my money back and a gift card without me saying anything. So they are paying me to eat their pasties .Great stuff!! I bought some reduced fruit which went through at full price, CS desk staff gave me the overcharge but told me the gift card was given if I was charged more than the shelf price, not if I was charged more than a price sticker on the item. I was taken aback, but decided to contact Asda by email, and query their policy. I had a response saying the email had been received and they would be in touch. That was 21 April, a full day after I sent the email, but still no further email from anyone. Does it normally take this long to get a response from their Head Office? No one at our CS desk seems to know what the policy is, they give a different excuse for not giving the gift card every time I am overcharged.

That's what I thought, but I haven't seen it in the mag for the last couple of issues. I always used to have it to hand when I went to CS desk, but can't rely on that now.

As long as you get your money back that you were overcharged then who cares?
