Before you go read this link http://www.fortinet.com/VirusEncyclopedia/search/encyclopediaSearch.do?method=viewVirusDetailsInfoDirectly&fid=69587 very carefully and as soon as you've read it pull the plug on your internet connection!!! Leave it out until you've fixed it.

The only thing I can suggest is to
Delete or rename your host file.
Install microsoft anti-spyware beta, and do a scan.
Run the Avast scan in safe mode, then do it again, to make sure it's clean, then reboot.
Run Windowsupdate one more time, make sure it runs properly and patches everything. Make sure your firewall is enabled in Control Panel. If you have a router, you may be able to block the ports found on netstat, to stop re-infection.
Sometimes, some of these infections disable virus/firewalls, so can be difficult to stop.
TOG,
I think beefy was being bombarded with overlapping advice last night. Have suffered from over-sensitivity myself before, so know what you mean. There are a half dozen or so, regular contributors here (of which you are one), who all know their stuff, but may have slightly different approaches. Personally, I learn bits and pieces from all of them.
Would like to think this is a friendly techie community trying to help and educate people, rather than a competetive arena for showing technical prowess.
But, if I disagree with anyone strongly on a technical point, I would always say so, without trying to offend them.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Berty_R. No issue with anything whatsoever that you've posted here. It's a pleasure to read and learn from your posts.
Beefy and I have kissed and made up. If you take a look at the link I put in post # 105 I would hope you would understand the urgency of my recommendation for him to get offline asap. He's spent way too many hours online at risk and still isn't making headway with it.Would like to think this is a friendly techie community trying to help and educate people, rather than a competetive arena for showing technical prowess.
It's absolutely fantastic. By far the best and friendliest forum I've ever been on which is why I spend so much time on here...................but you've gotta admit there is a little bit of competitive edge amongst the techies to come up with the right answer first - bit like professional pride at work and all that.

Ok, it's a bit competetive, and does sometimes get to handbags at dawn stage, but hopefully we all respect each other in the end.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

My handbag is back on the floor! (TOG - Apologies if any of my posts about the "F" word caused offence.)
Spotted this posting about the same virus/scumware infection...looks like a step by step process for scanning and removal. Itsbeef - I'd suggest you get someone to talk you through this (someone on here can probably do the interpretation)...but it certainly appears to have clean it up for the poor guy who was in the same plight as you.

(My knowledge of the Hijack This tool isn't strong enough to help Itsbeef, so I'll sit back as an interested observer if someone wants to pick the baton up.)0 -
Again as with Albertross I've enjoyed pursuing this one with you Christie-M and was finding the banter about the 'F' word equally amusing as you and albertross. So no apology expected or needed from you. Cheers.
It's sometimes equally as quite difficult to convey sentiment and true intent through the written medium as it is to misinterpreting the author's intent when reading the same.
I took exception to Mr Beef's post # 41 in reponse to what I thought was genuinely helpful advice in my post # 40.
If he'd meant it in jest then he should have used the appropriate emoticon to express himself.
Anway it's all water under the bridge now and I've put my handbag away.

I actually find the competitiveness to be always friendly, lighthearted and enjoyable. I think it's down to the mutual respect that exists amongst the techies on here.
I don't think I've ever seen a flame war between the techies - that's what makes it such fun.albertross wrote:but hopefully we all respect each other in the end
Totally! :grouphug:
