cant seem to locate the Netstat link?
  • Start -> Run, type in Cmd and OK. When the Command prompt opens type in Netstat and enter.

    TOG,

I hope anything I said didn't make you feel "persona non grata", your input is welcome, and as valid as anyone else's..

The F word stuff was meant as a joke, but an F may be required if we can't sort it.

tcpview from sysinternals.com can do the netstat, if beefy is still struggling
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
  • ****WARNING****WARNING****WARNING****

Until you get to the bottom of this do not under any circumstances use Internet Explorer for conducting financial transactions, entering passwords or any personal data.

Hopefully you don't have a keylogger but if you do you are at significant risk if you have sensitive and private data on your pc.

Again the longer you spend online trying to sort it out the greater the risk.

Obviously it's your call and I'm trying to help you not F**k you up but if I were you I'd get the hell offline, burn any important data you want to keep to CD/DVD and then format your disk to wipe it clean and start afresh with a new install of Windows.

Yes I know it's a pain and will take you 4 hours plus to get your machine back to where you want it but to me that's better than losing your privacy/identity/money over the Internet.

I'm not scaremongering because the risk is there for you and all to see on Google. There comes a point where this extends beyond a fun intellectual exercise for the techies on here to demonstrate their prowess and allow you to stay exposed (and I include myself in that before anyone else thinks I'm having a dig) - it's that serious.

I've stated my case and recommendation - the choice is yours!!

  • Well I was doing my best to help you out yesterday with suggestions like Netstat etc., and bowling out that you had !!!!!! diallers on your system in a previos thread, so I did feel a little bit peeved at your response herewhich with the gratuitous use of exclamation marks suggested to me that you felt I was being unhelpful just because I'd recommended a format.

Probably me just reading it wrong and being oversensitive!!

    Beefy,

Did Windowsupdate run to completion, as that should have patched against the dcom/lsass vuln etc..

I think you are only going to be able to get rid of this in safe mode, as that should stop the virus running at startup, if not you may have to kill the process manually (in task manager), and disable the setting that is starting it up, at boot.

sysinternals.com\autoruns may help, or hijack this..

    Thanks TOG!!!

Im kind of getting a bit worried as to what to do now......

Part of me wants to get it done here but more inclined to get machine looked at elsewhere by someone who can see whats happening for themselves.....

Thanks for your time though guys!!!!!

TOG....firstly apologies if you feel ignored by my comments. Not meant to come across that way at all.....

I am fairly pc ignorant so very confused by which route to take re: solving virus problems

    Apologies
